The University Honors Program Welcomes an Interim Honors Program Director

Dr. Lynn Stallings joined the Honors College on July 1 as the interim University Honors Program Director. 

Dr. Stallings began her career  teaching high school mathematics before earning her Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia. During her seventeen years at KSU, she has served in administrative roles in three colleges: the Bagwell College of Education, the College of Science and Mathematics, and University College. She is looking forward to joining the Honors College team. 

Dr. Stallings said, " I'm looking forward to this opportunity to work with Dean Rita Bailey and the Honors College faculty and staff. Dean Bailey has an exciting vision for the future of KSU's Honors College and programs, and I want to be a part of KSU's realization of that dream. I hope that my administrative experience, knowledge of KSU curriculum and policies, and professional network at KSU can be assets in my work in the Honors College. I look forward to learning all I can from Dean Bailey and the HC faculty and staff and becoming a member of the HC team."
Honors Scholar Accepted to Master's Program

Courtney Skeete has been accepted to the Master's in Public Administration Program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Along with her acceptance, she also received a ten thousand dollar Fellowship. 

Courtney graduated as an Honors Scholar from KSU in spring 2017. She served as Vice President of the Honors Club and continued to be an active member for two years.  Courtney shared that participating in the University Honors Program was a tremendous help in shaping her academic experience at KSU and allowed her to exercise leadership roles in public service.  

Along with her Master's Program, Courtney will spend a year with City Year AmeriCorps which focuses on bringing resources to students in high-poverty communities.
William Lentjes Nominated for the 2017 Portz Scholars Competition

William Lentjes graduated as a spring 2017 KSU Honors Scholar with an undergraduate degree in Architecture. He was nominated by Dr. Kami Anderson for the  2017 National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Portz Competition for his capstone project, "On Craft." Each university with a membership in NCHC is able to submit one nomination for this award . Four NCHC Portz Scholars will be chosen as winners and will be featured at a plenary session at the National Collegiate Honors Conference in November. The winners will also receive a $350.00 stipend. 


Kathryn Wilhite Chosen as Academic Program Specialist

Kathryn Wilhite is an alumna of Kennesaw State University and graduated with a Master's of Science in First-Year Studies. She spent the last two years as the Parent and Family Programs Coordinator for KSU's Division of Student Affairs. Her new position with the Honors College will include expanding programs for Honors housing residents, coordinating events for the Honors Club, coordinating a new Peer Mentor/leadership training program for students, and facilitating Honors first-year seminar courses. 

Wilhite is looking forward to her new position with the College and said, "I'm excited to be joining the Honors College because there are opportunities here to create some really intentional and special experiences for students in the University Honors and Dual Enrollment Programs. I've spent the past two years studying the design initiatives that help student success thrive in university environments, and I think what exists in the Honors College lays the perfect foundation to build in some new ideas. I love working directly with students to help them realize their goals, but also to help them achieve things they hadn't imagined possible; this position will get to do just that. I've just completed my Master of Science in First-Year Studies here at KSU and so I've been spending the summer getting back into my two favorite things: baseball (as a fan--I can't play!) and spending time camping at the lake with my dog Barley and husband Joel."

Job Opportunity Available for University Honors Students

The University Honors Program is seeking Honors Peer Mentors to work directly with students enrolled in sections of the Honors first year seminar course (KSU 1101H).

Peer Mentors will establish meaningful connections with students new to the University Honors Program, lead small group discussions and activities within the 1101 class, and encourage students to engage in Honors events and other opportunities.
