With all the changes that have taken place in the last year, a number of NFFE locals throughout the country have been renewing their commitment to building membership in order to build strength. NFFE Local 1904, located at New Orleans VA Medical Center and some of the smaller VA facilities in Louisiana, is no exception.
With a brand new 1.7 million-square-foot state of the art hospital recently completed in the heart of New Orleans, where thousands of employees represented by NFFE care for veterans, NFFE Local 1904 is executing a plan to strike while the iron is hot and building membership as the on-boarding of hospital staff takes place.

The National Federation of Federal Employees strongly opposes the 21st Century Aviation Innovation, Reform & Reauthorization Act (AIRR Act), which is scheduled for committee mark-up on tomorrow in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“The United States has the safest, largest, and most complex aviation system in the world and that system should continue to be operated solely for the public’s benefit and safety, not for the benefit of wealthy airline CEOs that will operate a privatized system,” stated Randy Erwin, NFFE National President. “This legislation is simply a bad idea. It trades safety for airline profits. There is no other reason to privatize the air traffic control system.”

Last Wednesday, 112 Democratic Representatives, led by Gerry Connolly (D-VA), sent a letter addressed to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to express their “strong opposition to President Trump’s assault on the salaries and pensions of middle class federal employees, retirees, and their families to pay for tax cuts for billionaires, as proposed in his Fiscal Year 2018 budget request.”
“The federal government the leading employer in many states, so these cuts will hit state and local economies very hard as families try to deal with the downturn,” said NFFE President Randy Erwin. “These proposed pension cuts are unconscionable. Under no circumstance will gutting middle-class federal employees’ retirement security to make way for billionaire tax cuts make America great again.”

NFFE National President Randy Erwin sent a letter to Chairman Diane Black (R-TN), Ranking Member John Yarmuth (D-KY) and members of the House Budget Committee in opposition to cuts in the FY18 budget resolution that would harm federal employees and retirees.
Specifically, the Representatives were urged to exclude reconciliation instructions to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Such instructions would set the stage for substantial health and retirement benefit cuts for federal and postal employees and retirees.
