Message from the CFR 2017 President Neal Johnson

Fellow Realtors®,

The community has been discussing the issue of GenX since it was discovered in the Cape Fear River due to discharges by Chemours/Dupont from a chemical manufacturing plant it operates in Fayetteville. The compound has been found in the 80-mile stretch of the river between the plant and Wilmington. GenX is a key ingredient in Teflon, used in commercial manufacturing.

I am just as concerned as you all are about the recent reports about GenX in the Cape Fear River and our drinking water.  Water is the single, most critical asset for a community.  Life does not exist without water, that is clean water.  It is a resource that we must protect to maintain the high quality of life in the region.
I am very concerned about the GenX water news, but we all need to slow down and learn the facts before rushing to judgment. I encourage you all to attend the GenX Forum this
Wednesday, June 28th at 7pm-9m at the UNCW Kenan Auditorium.

A public forum about the GenX water crisis -- sponsored by StarNews Media, WWAY News and WHQR News 91.3.

Speakers will address several topics during the forum and panelists will answer questions submitted by the public.
  • Wednesday at 7 PM -9 PM

Admission to the forum is free with tickets that will be distributed at the door. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

2 Days of GRI . ... coming this September

Fannie Raises DTI, Tackles Student Debt

Fannie Mae is increasing its maximum debt-to-income ratio to 50 percent from 45 percent and last month eased underwriting for borrowers carrying heavy student loan debt. The changes will help more households obtain financing to buy a home and are explained in an NAR video with Fannie Mae Vice President Jonathan Lawless.    learn  more>>
Reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) remains a top priority of NAR.  The past two weeks have seen a flurry of legislative activity.
In order to provide you with the latest information on the status of NFIP, NAR has updated the NFIP legislative analysis page.  This page will be updated as events warrant and will be your one-stop NFIP resource on www.nar.realtor

Additionally, NAR has updated the NFIP Talking Points  (PDF) to reflect the current state of play.  These talking points will also be updated as necessary.

If you have any questions regarding NFIP please contact Austin Perez [email protected] or Ken Wingert [email protected]

Workforce housing focuses on expanding housing opportunities for America's working families. In many communities, the people that provide vital services-teachers, firefighters, police officers, and laundry and restaurant workers-often cannot themselves afford to live there. Additionally, as home costs continue to outpace wages, many families can no longer afford homes near their workplaces while many local communities lack homes affordable to local workers.  learn more>>

NAR has a wonderful resource, called the Realtor® Content Resource provides hundreds of authoritative articles about all aspects of homeownership. Great for use in brochures, ads, and mailers, the articles are easy to adapt to individual branding.
