Summertime!

Another summer is upon us! Living on Cape Cod and the Islands offers so many wonderful opportunities to enjoy the out doors. Aside from our wonderful beaches, there are fairs, farmers markets, museums, theater, boat tours, bikeways, garden tours, etc. One favorite is the Yarmouth Sand Sculpture Trail. Pick up a map at the Yarmouth Visitor Center and try to locate all of the unique sculptures. There are so many ways to get involved with summer activities,

825 Falmouth Road, Hyannis on July 25th, 9:00 - 11:00 AM.

Specifically, they would like to hear about:

  • What factors make your community a great place to grow older?
  • How can we support families that include one or more older adults?
  • How can we promote more human connectedness (reduce loneliness, isolation) in communities?
  • What are the top two issues or concerns that create barriers to people being able to age well in their communities?
  • How can we accelerate innovation to support and connect older adults?
  • How can we change public perceptions about aging?

Join in to make an impact on our community! If you are unable to attend, please share your ideas by sending an email to shoshana.preuss@massmail.state.MA.US

Volunteers Needed:

Long Term Care Ombudsmen:

The Long-Term Care Ombudsmen program is seeking volunteers to advocate for residents of nursing and rest homes. Ombudsmen offer residents a way to voice their concerns and to have their issues addressed. When a resident, family member or friend expresses a concern and asks the Ombudsman to assist, the ombudsman works with the resident and facility staff to resolve the issue. Ombudsman volunteers are individuals with compassion and common sense, who give a few hours weekly to help residents live their lives with dignity and respect.

Volunteers receive training and support. The next training session will be held October 17 - 19 at the Elder Services offices on Route 134 in South Dennis. Pre-registration is required.
