A Note From Pastor Linda

Do not lay up for yourself treasure on earth... but lay up for yourselves treasurse in heaven...For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
 ~Jesus (from Matthew 6)

Dear Charli and Susan and Tom and Ava and Abbie and Mark and John and Jack and Toni and Vanessa and Jake and Aiden and Norah and Luke and Ian and Andrew and Charlie and Joseph and Vicki and... YOU

THANK YOU!

Jesus challenges us with a choice: accumulate stuff here (which ultimately has no value), or use it in such a generous way that you are investing in God's Kingdom come.
Things I learned at worship on SUNDAY:
  • I learned about GENEROSITY and the HEART of Hosanna.
  • I learned that children LISTEN in worship.
  • I learned that I can give- one more time!
  • I learned about LOVE from Charli... and YOU!

At KIDTALK I showed the kids an upside down picture of a child BEFORE FMSC food- and then pictures 3 months and 3 years AFTER FMSC food. We talked about God's upside down Kingdom and how we can make a difference. I handed out M&M tubes with the challenge to eat the treat and return the tube filled with quarters to feed 63 kids.

Charli was at worship on Sunday with her mom. She came up for KIDTALK and learned about God's Kingdom- and about how FMSC food helps kids because we pack it with LOVE. Charli heard Mark Crea speak about the urgent need for food around the world. Charli heard Mark say that there were 3 things she could do:
  • VOLUNTEER
  • DONATE
  • PRAY

Charli heard that we still needed 49 donors to help us meet the goal of 250 engaged supporters and so Charli ACTED. She went home and returned with her M&M tube FILLED with quarters asking me after worship if they still counted. Of course they did! And because of Charli... and because of YOU... we met our goal of 250+ engaged DONORS.

THANK YOU!!

I have since heard MANY stories of kids looking for change, grappling with how they can help turn HUNGER into HOPE. They listened... they acted... you acted...

THANK YOU!!

This Sunday we continue our journey- the CROSS=LOVE- as we begin a WEEK of GENEROSITY- Holy Week:
For God so LOVED the world that he GAVE his only Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. ~ Jesus (John 3)

First Communion Workshop
Workshop: Wednesday, March 21 at 6:45- 8:00 pm
Celebration: During Last supper reenactment worship, choose 1 of 3 services
March 27-29, 7:30 pm

Communion, one of two sacraments offered in the Lutheran church. Hosanna offers this unique and meaningful opportunity each year for families to participate in this milestone during Holy Week- Last Supper Reenactment Worship Service, where Jesus and His disciples will serve communion.
The workshop is offered prior to Holy Week. If requested you may plan with one of the Pastors to have First Communion celebrated on another date as well.

All ages are invited to participate in the Communion Workshop. The decision to participate is one that needs to be made by the family, each child develops differently both mentally and spiritually. Communion is always open for any believing heart to partake. The workshop is a supplemental element to aide in understanding the sacrament better. During our workshop participants will learn about the history of communion, partake in a sampling of Passover foods, baking bread and how to prepare for the sacrament itself. Parents/ Guardians or Godparents are asked to attend class with their child but the whole family is invited to join in.

Please contact Pastor Jen if you are interested.

Sunday, April 8

Lutheran Campus Ministry, Young Adulthood, and the Future of the Church

Study after study reveals that less young people are attending church, and of those that do attend, they attend less regularly.  What these studies fail to account for is the deep faithfulness of the students who are actively engaged with a faith community, the ways they are reaching out across borders and boundaries, the counter cultural nature of their practice, the ways they're integrating their experiences in labs and classrooms with their faith, and the ways they are, and will continue, to shape the church and world into the future.

Your Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Minnesota is privileged to walk alongside some of these young adults while they're in college, and we are looking forward to being present with you on April 8 for  LCM  Sunday

A student will be preaching on that day, proclaiming the Gospel, and sharing stories about her life in college.   For more information, visit www.umnlutheran.org/lcmsunday

New Book Club Book

Blessing of the Car Keys:
Leaping Into Independence
Wednesday, April 18 at 6:30pm in the Higher Ground Room
(Ages 15+)

The Blessing of the Keys is one more way the faith community is helping to instruct and lead our youth. This milestone is open to all youth who have received their permit or driver's license in the last year.

Everyone knows a whole new world opens up for families when a child receives their driver's license. New expectations, new privileges, new freedoms, and new worries all come into play.  What better time to come together as a family to talk through the new expectations and privileges, as well as pray and ask for guidance. Join other families and youth as we eat lunch, create covenants and choose verses to bless the cars.

Gustavus Adolphus College will be holding the 6th Annual Faith Conference on Doubt & Difference: Finding Faith Through Authentic Engagement on April 21. Purchase tickets at gustavus.edu/faithconference
