COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
MISSING PETS
As we're sure you're aware, our pets are frightened by the sounds of the 4th of July holiday and may send them fleeing from home.  The 4th of July holiday is one of the busiest holidays for the Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC). If your pet has gone missing, please visit the DACC website to view the pets that are currently at the shelter waiting to be adopted or reunited with their families:
PLANNING & PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING (7/18/17)
On July 18, 2017, the Planning and Preservation Commission will conduct a Public Hearing to consider a request for the approval of a Variance (VAR) 2017-003, to allow for some of the required off-street parking spaces for the property located at 500 San Fernando Mission Blvd. to be satisfied by payment of an in-lieu parking fee.  The proposed use at the subject site will occupy a 1,400 sq. ft. tenant space of an existing 6,522 sq. ft. commercial building located on an approximate 10,000 sq. ft. lot and will prompt a higher parking ratio.  The subject site is located along the east side of the 500 block of San Fernando Mission Blvd., between Hewitt St. and Hollister St., within the C-1 (Limited Commercial) Zone.
FINANCE
BUSINESS LICENSE AMNESTY PROGRAM
The City Council has approved a Business License Amnesty Program to waive all penalties for businesses that are currently operating without a license, or with an expired license, if they self-report by June 30, 2017.  After June 30, 2017, the City will conduct a discovery and verification audit of businesses operating in the City.  Any businesses or individuals found to be operating without a license at that time will be subject to back fees and penalties.  If interested in participating in the Business License Amnesty Program, please contact Sandra Soto at 818.898.1245 or [email protected], or download an application from the City's website (WWW.SFCITY.ORG).
AVOID LATE FEES ON YOUR WATER BILL
Have you ever received late fees because you forgot to pay your Water Bill? Avoid late fees by signing up for AutoPay and have your Water Bill debited from your account automatically. For more details, contact the Finance Department at 818.898.1245.
FINANCIAL REPORTS
As a reminder, all of the City's financial reports, including annual budgets, audited financial statements, and the Measure A Annual Report can be found under the Finance Department page on the City's website (WWW.SFCITY.ORG).
POLICE
FIREWORKS ACTIVITY
This year was exceptionally busy with the illegal fireworks throughout the City of San Fernando.   The night of and the week leading up to the 4th of July, the Police Department received numerous calls of illegal firework throughout the City and during the evening hours on the 4th of July, over 20 calls relating to illegal fireworks were handled, as well as, other priority calls. Additionally, a large amount of illegal fireworks were seized.

In 2015, the City Council amended the City Ordinance regarding illegal fireworks and increased fines. This update has assisted the Police Department in enforcing the violation. However, one requirement of this, and any type of law, is the violation must be witnessed by a Police Officer for a citation to be issued.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
On Tuesday, August 1, 2017, the San Fernando Police Department will host the San Fernando Police National Night Out event. This year, actor/producer Danny Trejo will participate as Host of Ceremonies and a free concert will be provided by Honey County. Other special guests include David Bugenske (Co-host of the Go Country 105 FM Graham in the Mornings Show), U.S. Congressmember Tony Cardenas, and Assemblymember Raul Bocanegra.

This annual event is possible due to the generosity of several local businesses and the support of our co-hosts: the San Fernando Police Advisory Council and the Neighborhood Watch Program.  Along with the impressive entertainment, free hot dogs, soft drinks, and activities will be provided to the public.

PUBLIC WORKS
CDBG ALEXANDER STREET IMPROVEMENTS
All American Asphalt has completed the resurfacing of Alexander St. Work included removal and replacement of sidewalk, cross gutters and curb and gutter; installation of ADA ramps; repaving of Alexander St. from First St. to Library St.; and striping and pavement markings.
SEVENTH STREET EMERGENCY SEWER MAIN REPLACEMENT
While conducting routine sewer maintenance, it was discovered that the existing concrete pipe along Seventh St. between N. Maclay Ave. and Harding Ave. was severely deteriorated and had collapsed; sewer overflow was not triggered by the collapsed pipe.  The City has contracted with Excel Paving Company to replace approximately 750 linear feet of sewer main.
CNG STATION FUELING STATION UPGRADE PROJECT
As part of the CNG station upgrade project, the existing wall and gate that leads into the City Yard, located at 120 Macneil St., had to be relocated to make room for the larger storage tanks/spheres which will be installed.  Public Works staff took the lead on this project which in turn helped keep an increase to the overall cost of project to a minimum.  Thanks to Public Works Senior Maintenance Workers Steve Watts, Robert Davidson and Jim Davis for taking on the project; they did great work!
GATEWAY IMPROVEMENTS
Facilities staff continues to work diligently on improving the Gateway on San Fernando Rd at Truman St. Synthetic grass has been purchased for the second phase of the Gateway facelift.  The installation of synthetic grass will help minimize maintenance cost and will require less water due to drought tolerant planting.
