PHS Student Art Work to Be on Display at HVCCA's "Between I & Thou" Exhibit Opening Feb. 4
In anticipation of the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art's upcoming art installation, "Between I & Thou," Peekskill High School art students have been working with HVCCA Artist in Residence Kristianne Molina to create their own piece for the show's opening reception on Saturday, February 4.
Under the guidance of PHS art teachers, Molina has spent the past several weeks working alongside approximately 100 students in grades 9-12 as the classes create a visual story through the art of fabric painting and collaging, à la the style of renowned African American artist Faith Ringgold, who will have her work on display at the HVCCA show.

The following article was published on LoHud.com on January 23, 2017.
When Yunior De La Rosa first arrived in Peekskill two years ago at age 14, he was shy, scared and didn't speak English.
De La Rosa and his family had moved to the city from the Dominican Republic and he was placed in seventh-grade classes where mostly English was spoken, which made it nearly impossible to keep up.
Two years later, with the help of a new language acquisition program, De La Rosa is translating Spanish to English for his peers, he's on the honor roll for his sophomore classes, and is set to graduate in two years.
