The Scalise Capitol Report
Update on Congressman Scalise's Condition
This week, Congressman Steve Scalise was readmitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to new concerns of infection. He underwent surgery and tolerated the procedure well. He remains in serious condition and will continue healing and treatment at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
Please note that our offices remain open and ready to assist you in any way that we can. Our focus remains on fighting for Louisiana's values and priorities, and we are so thankful for the continued outpouring of prayers and kind words for Rep. Scalise and all others injured in the attack.

Red Snapper
Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced an extension to the private recreational red snapper fishing season in federal waters. This was an outcome Congressman Scalise, along with other Gulf Coast Members, worked hard to accomplish. Louisiana is known around the world as a sportsman's paradise, and this announcement is a true victory for the recreational anglers who have expressed frustration with Washington's ridiculously short, three-day season.

2017 Legislative Wrap-Up
 The sessions produced a solid budget but no fiscal reforms while leaving questions about the cliff, transportation and Medicaid
 
The 2017 regular legislative session and the lagniappe special session have come and gone. Has Louisiana made any progress? Was significant tax reform achieved? And is the state prepared for what lies ahead? The answers are yes, no and not really. The state budget is on a more stable footing than in recent years and its prison population could be reduced thanks to a bipartisan package of criminal justice bills. But tax reform remained on the sideline and the so-called "fiscal cliff" still looms large in the not-too-distant future. PAR's wrap-up commentary lays out what you need to know about what happened and how the state is positioned for the next stage of the fiscal battle.  
 
The report also takes a look at what happened with transportation and urges the governor to veto a bill that could allow the Legislature to disregard the extensive planning and public input process the transportation department uses to prioritize and select projects. It also describes some significant tax changes, what it means to "fully fund' TOPS, and the challenges of Medicaid spending.
