Farm Notes:
Summer squash in the field
There is so much growth around us. These long sunny days that we have anxiously been waiting for, combined with all the rain over the past few weeks have made everything jump for joy. The blueberries are swelling in size. The raspberries are tasting great. And we have just started harvesting the first of the squash.  The first corn, once delayed by the cool spring, is now catching up with the long sunny hot days.

We often only think of what we can see and we forget that the soil brings us life.  A healthier soil should bring us healthier life.  The beautiful green bucolic field that we see is a result of that which is underfoot.  Understanding the effects of the sun and rain on our crops allows us to create better conditions that lead to beautiful food.  Yet the health of the food arises from below the surface of the soil- the area that our eyes cannot so easily see.

Both above and below the soil line, are doing exceptionally well these days.  We can't complain, life is good on the farm!

Please Return CSA Bins

We are running dangerously low on our reusable plastic CSA bins. Please be sure to return any extra bins that you have around your house.

Additionally, please consider bringing reusable shopping bags with you to your pick up to transport your share home with you. We will also be sending plastic shopping bags to the pick ups this week if you'd like to leave your bin behind but have forgotten to bring reusable bags with you.

Thank you.
What's in The Share:
Week 3

The first few weeks of every New England CSA share will always have a great assortment of delicious, nutritious and tender greens. These greens grow well in the cool Spring weather.  As the weather warms into summer, you can expect the number of greens to decrease as the weather continues to warm and more variety begins to be able to be harvested from the fields.

Vegetable Share:
  • Lettuce (We have a bumper crop of delicious lettuce this week. This is the best time to enjoy crisp salads before the heat of the summer threatens to turn the delicate lettuce leaves bitter.)
  • Broccoli Rabe
  • Arugula or Purslane
  • Swiss Chard or Kale
  • Garlic Scapes
  • Parsley, Chives, Oregano or Rosemary
  • A 4" pot of Basil to grow at home for a constant supply of fresh basil!
  • and more!
Fruit Share:
  • Strawberries
This is what we are planning and hoping to harvest this week.  Ultimately Mother Nature has the last word so the actual contents of your share will vary.
