The annual CalNeva chapter meeting is coming up, as are deadlines for registration and submissions! 
Annual Meeting Early Registration Ends 2/25!

Early registration for this year's annual meeting will end on Saturday, February 25th. Register now to save on registration costs! 

While registering for the meeting consider signing up for continuing education courses and/or field trips. Our meeting organizers have done a great job this year in securing some excellent trainings and activities! 

Continuing Education Courses:


eDNA  - led by Drs. Scott Blankenship & Gregg Schumer. 

Fish Passage & Screening  - led by Drs. Rocko Brown & Joseph Merz. 

PIT-Tagging  - led by Oregon RFID.


Field Trips:


Tour of two local tidal habitat restoration projects  -  the Salt River project on the Eel River and a coho rearing habitat restoration project on Wood Creek.

Tour of Humboldt Bay and the oyster farms in North Bay  - includes oyster tasting, led by Pacific Seafood.

Tour of Humboldt State University's aquatic facilities - includes the on-campus fish hatchery, aquaponics facility, and Trinidad marine lab.

Walking tour of Redwood National and State Parks - includes old growth forest and fish habitat in Prairie Creek.

An Introduction to Night Snorkeling - Night snorkeling clinic on Freshwater Creek, L ed by Sam Rizza and Abel Brumo from Stillwater Sciences, and Jeff Abrams from NOAA Fisheries.

Humboldt Bay Cruise  - Two hour cruise of Humboldt Bay highlighting commercial aquatic species distribution, cultural and economic significance, and aquaculture use. Sponsored by McBain Associates, Applied River Sciences.

Abstracts Due 2/25

Would you like to present a paper or poster at this year's meeting? Abstract submission for posters and oral presentations closes Saturday, February 25th! Presenting on your research is a great way to get feedback from the California and Nevada fisheries community and can help with justification of meeting costs to employers. 

Cash prizes will be given to students with the best oral and poster presentations. Judging will be conducted by the  American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists (AIFRB) Northern California District.

2017 Spawning Run

 

Pack your running shoes! The 2017 annual spawning run is scheduled for 7am on Friday, April 7th, and will be held in the Arcata Community Forest. Registration cost is $20 which includes a t-shirt and a chance at Sportsman's Warehouse gift cards for top finishers.

A block rate of $94/night has been secured at the Red Lion Inn, Eureka. Call and ask for the CalNeva American Fisheries Society rate to get the block pricing.

Volunteering

Are you a student or young professional? We need your help ensuring that the 51st Annual Cal-Neva AFS meeting runs as smoothly as possible. 

Tasks: Checking in conference attendees at the registration desk, selling merchandise, assisting with speaker sessions, and more.

Perks: If you are willing to  volunteer for 5 or more hours, your meeting registration fee will be waived and there is limited opportunity for lodging.
