Dear friends,

Most of us who live in this community believe there's no better place to live, to work, to raise a family, to grow old. We believe that because, for most of us, it's true. But, for some of us, too many of us, often that "no better place" has become more dream than reality. These are the folks we see every day.

Having said that, we take heart from all the wise and wonderful and generous ways people like you step up to that complex ecology of relatedness we experience as community to shatter the illusion of what separates us.

Each day you are giving shape to dreams of a safe place to call home, a living wage and an opportunity to earn it, a strong start in life and educational opportunity for all of our children, a welcoming new homeland for immigrants, advocacy for and access to health care, a place to grow old with dignity, and the healing balm of simple human friendship for all who call our community home.

This summer we and the Wayzata and Orono School Districts are focused on mobilizing community heart and will and resources to close cradle-to-career educational opportunity and achievement gaps of kids of our community. Please join us and bring your friends and neighbors to the Aug. 23 Great Expectations Breakfast at Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Blvd East, 7:30 - 9 a.m., to become informed, engaged and invested in the future of our kids. Thank you, friends. You are the best!

MISSION MOMENTS

A taste of the amazing milestones and successes you make possible!

  • A GED student recently got his U.S. citizenship and proudly sported a sharp navy blue suit with a flag pin in his lapel. Wanting to look his best for the ceremony, he had purchased the suit at a very affordable price at Resale Select!

  • A woman who had lost her housing worked with staff in the computer lab on a job search. She found a temporary job at a living wage that has a good chance of becoming permanent and has since returned to her own stable housing and started a graduate degree program!

  • This spring, we recognized five volunteers with 15+ years of service in the food shelf - Charlie Cook, Ann Maass, Carol Luthringshauser, Al Colling and Chuck Ritchie. Amazingly, each one of these volunteers is still with us several days a week. Thank you!
