National Awards, Carter Work Project,
and more...

Time is both a friend and an enemy. 2017 has been racing along at mach speed and I can't believe we're almost into July. Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North recently returned from Habitat Canada's week-long National AGM in Kelowna. In addition to taking away knowledge and inspiration from Habitat Canada and other Canadian affiliates, we brought home two awards. I could not be more proud of our team and our accomplishments.

Our 477 Hilchey build in Campbell River is fully underway, and while we are still in need of additional volunteers to help bring it to completion, we are proud to be moving at a faster speed than we have ever moved before. Adding to our excitement is the 2017 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, in which 150 homes will be built across Canada to celebrate Canada's 150th. We are honoured that our duplex is part of this initiative, and we want the whole community to join us in celebration. Come out to the Hilchey Road build site on July 13th for guest speakers, cake, entertainment, and the opportunity to meet our homeowners and tour their future home.
Build Volunteers Needed

We have begun a multi-year build project at 477 Hilchey Road and we are in dire need of volunteers right now to provide safe and affordable housing for 11 Campbell River families. Volunteering on a Habitat build not only gives you the opportunity to help local families, but the chance to connect with other people, make new friends, and learn new skills. You can volunteer one day only, or on an ongoing basis. Every single day of your time makes a big difference!

Carter Work Project

To celebrate Canada's 150th, Habitat for Humanity Canada will be building 150 homes across Canada as part of the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. Our Campbell River build is part of this initiative, and on July 13th we are inviting the community to join us in celebration. Come out to our build site on 477 Hilchey Road for speakers, cake, entertainment, kids' activities, and the opportunity to meet our homeowner families and tour the home we are building with them.

What's new with us:
Award Winners

Of the 56 Habitat affiliates across the country, we were recognized for 'Epic Engagement' and 'Mobilized Leadership,' winning two of 10 awards presented by Habitat Canada. This is the second year in a row that our local affiliate was presented with two awards.

Students from Queneesh

A unique partnership with Habitat has helped Grades 4 through 7 Montessori students at Queneesh Elementary School in Courtenay learn about everything from environmental stewardship to affordable housing. Students spent time in our ReStore, ran a concession at our dance, and held a ReStore donation drive!

From June 11th-18th we hosted a group of 12 Canada Builds volunteers from across Canada and the US. Canada Builds is a Habitat Canada Global Village program that gives people the opportunity to travel and be part of a team of volunteers dedicated to advancing a Habitat build project.

Come out to the Comox Valley Canada Day celebrations on July 1st to see us in the 10am parade! Better yet, volunteer to walk with us or to help decorate our float this week.

We still need more volunteers to help on our Campbell River build. Schedule yourself for a shift or contact [email protected] with any questions.
