We are excited to share our enthusiasm for BJBE with prospective members. Whether their interest is a Jewish education for their children, experiencing a variety of worship services, thought-provoking adult education or repairing the world, we have summer activities to introduce those looking for a spiritual home to our community. BJBE is hosting an event this Wednesday evening.

    Thursday, July 13 & Thursday, August 10, 5:00-8:00pm. Don't miss out on Max and Benny's Family Night with BJBE! Join BJBE clergy and staff in the back party room which is reserved just for families - there will be an art project, songs, $5 kids meals, and a sundae bar for the whole family! The room can fill up fast so make sure to call ahead and reserve a space! Families are responsible for their own dinner. Max and Benny's, 461 Waukegan Rd, Northbrook.
 
Enjoy Summer Evenings with the BJBE Post Carpool Club, for fun loving "mature" members and friends of BJBE. Contact Carol Berger for information or program suggestions. 2 lovely evenings under the stars are planned:  
Thursday, July 13, 6:00pm, Meet us at the Botanic Gardens for the Hot Summer Nights Program featuring music by R-Gang. Their show includes soul, gospel, blues, and rock. Admission is free with a membership parking sticker.  If you do not have one, let us know and we will try to connect you with someone else attending. Bring your own dinner and beverage. We will provide dessert. Some chairs are available.   
Sunday, August 6 , Meet us at Ravinia. Gates open at 3:00pm, concert starts at 5:00pm. The Chicago Symphony's Mancini & Moon River; plus hits from Pink Panther, Days of Wine and Roses, Victor /Victoria and much more. Bring your own main course, beverage, chairs and table for your picnic, and either an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to share. When you arrive at the Park, take the path to the left of the Theater (you will be facing it after you enter the gate), follow the path down to the corner where the paths cross just before the Pavilion. We will be on the corner to the left of the Pavilion, near the wine cart and Rest Room.  If you came last summer, it is the same corner. Lawn Admission Tickets are $10.00 each or you may choose to picnic with us pre-concert and enjoy pavilion seats ($25) You must purchase your own tickets on line  here, or at the gate. 
 
Sunday in the Park with Bagels, July 16,10:00am-12:00pm, Sunset Woods Park in Highland Park. Explore the Jewish calendar through crafts, games, music and (of course) bagels! This fun, free event is best suited for families with young children (infant-8) but all are welcome. Join our Facebook event here. Registration is encouraged; please use this link. Questions? Please contact Anne. This event is sponsored by the North Shore Jewish community, including BJBE and 20 other organizations.
In case of inclement weather, the event will move to the Bernard Weinger JCC (300 Revere Drive, Northbrook). You will be notified by 8:00am if we are headed indoors. 
 
Back by popular demand: the BJBE Sisterhood Kallah (retreat).
Treat yourself to 24 hours of relaxation, good food, Shabbat prayer, awesome workshops, and fun with your BJBE Sisters. July 21-22 at the Marriott Hotel, Hoffman Estates.  Cost is $150 per person if sharing a room, $200 in a private room.  For more information, call Lynne 847-215-1357.

Tour the Driehaus Museum with BJBE Sisterhood, Tuesday,
August 1. Time to be determined by group. BJBE Sisterhood invites you to step back into the past as we tour the beautiful Driehaus Museum in Chicago. Contact   Sue Goldstein to let her know your interest in attending.

YOUTH PROGRAMS
BJBE is committed to meeting the needs of our children of all ages. To keep our tweens and teens engaged with Judaism throughout their middle and high school years, we offer opportunities for sacred friendship, connection, learning, social action, leadership, travel and fun. Our programming is on break for summer while many of our teens are away at camp or traveling - however, keep your eyes here or check our website for fall events!

Shabbat mornings feature our  Kol Shabbat Service at 9:30am followed by Torah Study at 11:00am.   Rabbi Fenster will lead Torah Study this Saturday. 

Wednesday Morning Minyan :   Begin your day in a beautiful and powerful way by attending our Wednesday morning Minyan from 6:45am to 7:15am. Each week we pray in the intimate space of the Chapel with a supportive, welcoming group. Experience a prayer service grounded in communal song, thought-provoking liturgy, and deep silence, followed by camaraderie over bagels and coffee. Morning Minyan participants have commented that this worship has connected to their lives in many unexpected and transformative ways. For more information, contact 
Cantor Green. The weekday prayer melodies are available here, although all are welcome to attend regardless of musical or prayerbook knowledge.

DAYTIME AT BJBE  
Monday Canasta/Mahjong: The Sisterhood will host Canasta and Mahjong games weekly at 1:00pm. All are welcome to join in the fun. To participate, RSVP to Sharon Krivitzky and let her know which game you will be playing and if you can bring supplies.

ednesday Morning Minyan:  Our weekday morning Minyan meets i n the BJBE Chapel from 6:45 - 7:15am. Talmud Study meets immediately after the service. For more information, contact Cantor Green.The weekday prayer melodies are available here.
 
Thursday Tai Chi Chu'an: We offer a weekly Thursday morning Tai Chi class led by Dr. Drew Serlin at 7:30am.  There is no charge for these classes.
SOCIAL ACTION NETWORK
We are collecting toiletries, batteries, hearing aids, eyeglasses, ink cartridges, and cell phones. Thank you for your generous donations.  
We are NOT collecting used clothing at this time.

Keshet is internationally recognized for its leading edge services for individuals with disabilities.  From its local programming at over seventy sites in the Chicago area to its international consultations, the organization strives to meet its most important mission: To do whatever necessary to allow individuals with disabilities to achieve their potential.
 
CARING COMMUNITY 
BJBE's Caring Community is a team of volunteers who can act as your extended family when your family needs additional support.  Caring Community provides the following services: home delivered meals in times of need, transportation to/from temple or a medical appointment, phone support for people who are ill or lonely, senior education and caregiver support, chicken or vegetable soups (always available in the kitchen!) and a virtual food pantry.  To access these services confidentially, please call Gloria Kaiz at 847-945-3741.

BJBE is certified as a Safer Synagogue by Jewish Community Abuse Resources, Education & Solutions (JCARES). Our leadership has been trained in understanding the impact of abuse across the lifespan and improving access to support for congregants experiencing abusive situations. JUDAICA (GIFT) SHOP     
Stop by the Judaica Shop to see the new wall and shelf art by Gary Rosenthal, including chais and hamsas for your home. We have some new tzedakah boxes for baby gifts, candles from Safed and a lot of new mezuzahs for the home. And take a look at our "love" sculpture for wedding glass shards-a beautiful piece at a very low price!

The Judaica Shop is open Fridays 30 minutes prior to and following Friday night services, Wednesdays 1:00pm-3:00pm, Sundays during the summer when the building is open 9:30am-11:30am, and always by special appointment by calling Lynne at 847-215-1357.
