Volunteer Spotlight: Altice USA, HGTV, and DIY Network
On June 20th, a group of amazing volunteers from Altice USA, DIY Network, and HGTV traveled to the South Bronx to make repairs to and liven up the Banana Kelly Community Improvement Association Inc.'s Social Center. Volunteers were joined by Jason Cameron, host of DIY Network’s Man Caves and Desperate Landscapes, who led a live-stream of the event on Facebook with nearly 50,000 viewers tuning in to the day’s project. Following Jason's energetic leadership, volunteers braved the heat, built a raised garden bed, and helped to unload and spread over 150 bags of soil. The Social Center plans to use the newly cultivated garden space to grow fresh produce to share with the community. In the hopes of further encouraging community integration, volunteers built new picnic tables, which they tested out with great success at lunch time. Inside, volunteers painted the center’s community room, which is often used for GED classes, as well as the entryway to the center, making it considerably brighter and more welcoming. This group worked diligently and enthusiastically, and it was an absolute pleasure to spend the day together. We are looking forward to the next time we have the opportunity to work with this amazing group!

Partnership Spotlight: Home Matters
Rebuilding Together NYC is proud to partner with Home Matters and Wells Fargo on a new Home Matters to Veterans campaign! Through this partnership, we will renovate a New York City home with universal design features so that a local veteran can age-in-place and enjoy their home today and forever. Stay tuned for more as the renovation gets underway.
Project Spotlight: Andre R.'s Home
Paulette’s adult son Andre is developmentally disabled and uses a wheelchair full-time. In order for him to get in and out of the home for doctor’s appointments, Paulette would ask her neighbors to help carry him down a flight of 10 stairs to the sidewalk.
RT NYC installed a sizeable ramp that winds around the house and allows Paulette to safely wheel Andre to ground level on a slight gradient. But we're not done yet. Next, RT NYC will install a roll-in shower so that Andre can be bathed in the shower. The family is thrilled about the modifications and dignity that they have brought to Andre's life.
Funding Announcements
donateNYC

Our Salvage Store just received a $10,000 grant from the Department of Sanitation’s donateNYC program! We will use the funds to carry out our Green Builders NYC initiative which will create an advisory council of experts from the construction industry. We will then work alongside these experts to salvage high end overstock materials from build sites.

Through Green Builders NYC, we hope to divert even more material from the waste stream, furthering our commitment to environmental sustainability, while also providing our community with affordable, high-end supplies for their own construction projects.

If you have any questions or would like to be involved in this project, please reach out to us at salvage@rebuildingtogethernyc.org.

Council Member Carlos Menchaca

The Workforce Training Program has received a discretionary award of $10,000 from Council Member Carlos Menchaca. This money, in addition to our new on-site classroom space, will help us grow and extend our program through 2018.

Thank you to Mr. Menchaca for his commitment to cultivating strong employment and housing options in our community, as well as for his continued support of RT NYC.
