Bible Study
St. Jerome's stands as people of God, with Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We are here to represent Christ to all people, act as good stewards to all of God's creation and support each other by sharing our strengths as we continue God's work in the world.

SESSION 3

THE CROWD AND THE
UNCERTAINTY OF WORRY
Read Luke 12:1-34

Amid the thundering noises and bitter chill, a spindly tree clung to the rocks at the edge of the falls. One of its branches reached out in front of the torrential waters as if foolishly seeking to experience its full power. A little bird had built a nest in the elbow of that branch. Content and undisturbed in her stormy surroundings, she rested on her eggs. With her eyes closed and her wings ready to cover her little ones, she manifested peace that transcends all earthly turmoil.

The reminder from Jesus to consider the ravens and the lilies is a critical one for our Lenten journey, and it is possible that it is the most important reminder you need right now. It is not just to remember that God cares for you, but to actively notice ways that God cares for you. Then, just as plainly as you can see birds and flowers, you can pay attention to the signs of God in the present moment.

Here's one more way to say it:
no matter what you are going through,
God is always with you.

Reflection Questions

1. What are the ways in which you are beset with worries right now?
2. Of those things that worry you, how many are things you can actually change?
3. Has there ever been a time when you worried about something a great deal, only to have it work out to be better than you feared?
4. What contributed to bringing about a better resolution than you at first thought?
5. What can you begin to notice around you in order to help you recall God's care and provision?

Since I post this study on Face Book as well as the St Jerome's website, I invite comments and questions from any of you who are not able to be physically with us, but find this study meaningful and would like to be a part of it. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected].

Bless you all,
Fr Colin Kelly
