There is still time to register for the workshop with Peter Kenyon! Headwaters Communities in Action and the Rural Ontario Institute are thrilled to be hosting this day-long event.
Peter Kenyon is the renowned Australian community development expert and is returning to Ontario. Mr. Kenyon has worked with over 1600 communities in 58 countries. He initiated the Bank of I.D.E.A.S. (Initiatives for the Development of Enterprising Action and Strategies). The work of BOI is motivated by the desire to create caring, healthy, inclusive, sustainable and enterprising communities and local economies. It specializes in initiatives to strengthen community building, local economic development and youth empowerment.
Peter will deliver an ABCD (Asset Based Community Development) workshop which will include Leadership for Reinventing Rural Communities: strategies to support rural communities. Calling all stakeholders and Trails enthusiasts to connect about forming a Regional Trails Council. As demonstrated at the Trails Summit on May 10, RTC’s are built by attracting stakeholders and champions to the table and can make a meaningful impact in both forming a strategy and moving aspects of work forward.
Have a look at the
Summit Report to see what priorities were identified as potential projects. If you’re a cycling buff, an avid hiker, or envision a multi-use strategy for the future of Headwaters, there is opportunity to make an impact through collaboration and connecting the players. Our communities are growing and connecting our residents to the outdoors and to a healthier lifestyle can and should be part of that growth. Enjoy the summer and plan to join the conversation in the early fall when we’ll talk about priority projects, funding, and what a council could look like and accomplish in Headwaters.
If you're a key stakeholder and/or interested organization or citizen who would like to join in this discussion, please
connect with us.

Headwaters Farm Fresh Guide
|
It's just days to go before you'll get your hands on the new Headwaters Farm Fresh Guide! Headwaters Food & Farming Alliance (HFFA) and In The Hills teamed up to produce a new Farm Fresh print and online guide to local food producers in the Headwaters region.
The guide will include maps and listings for local food producers, including CSAs, on-farm markets, and those who sell at their farm gate or local farmers' markets in Dufferin, Caledon and Erin. About 45,000 copies of the 24-page, oversize (6.25" x 10.5") print version of the guide will be distributed in the summer (June) issue of In The Hills, with an additional 10,000 copies distributed at markets and tourism locations throughout the region. This exciting publication will be in your hands shortly!

Volunteering Moves Forward in Dufferin
|
Our grant from the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration continues to be activated through the Partnership Grant Program project. Some background: The website www.volunteerdufferin.ca came into being in 2012 through an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant to create a volunteer-centre website for Dufferin County. Today through the grant, Volunteer Dufferin is taking a giant step forward with a website redesign to more effectively meet the needs of both non-profit organizations that depend on volunteers and those in the community looking for meaningful volunteer opportunities.
With an expanded community outreach and marketing, and a planned launch of our new website for the Fall of 2017, HCIA has partnered with Volunteer Dufferin and Big Brothers, Big Sisters to seamlessly integrate into the priorities of both HCIA and DC Moves. But you don't have to wait for Fall! The current website will continue to meet your needs until the new site is launched. As www.volunteerdufferin.ca undertakes a refresh of its website, expands its community outreach and delivers more value to subscribers and volunteers, we want YOUR ORGANIZATION to become a subscriber. Contact Kaarina today at kaarinadillabough@live.com or 519-942-0723 to find out more.
