Art Fair in the Garden 
with the 
Pasadena Society of Artists

Art Fair in the Garden will offer residents and visitors to the Pasadena area a rare opportunity to meet renowned local artists and purchase their work for prices ranging from $5 to $500. Tai-Ling Wong will also be at the garden selling wonderful, Asian-inspired clothing from Citron.

The show will feature paintings, photographs, ceramics, sculptures and prints by fourteen PSA artists: Mariko Bird (turtle image,) Martin Ehrlich, Bernard Kane, Stan Kieffer, Joanna Kos, Eileen Oda Leaf, Warner LeMenager, Jim Marshall, Rebecca Pollack, Kruti Shah (Grasshopper 2013, inks on paper) Robert
Sullivan and Jackie Steimke. The artists are generously giving a percentage of their proceeds to the garden to help fund educational and cultural programming. 
 
     
Open Day Last Sunday is from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Docent tour at 11:00. The garden is wheelchair accessible. Sorry, no pets allowed.  Members receive complimentary admission for two. Children 12 and under are free.

Remember: The City of Pasadena prohibits our visitors from parking on the surrounding residential streets. Please follow the signs to park on-site. On Open Day Last Sunday, parking is also available in the lot we share with the Westridge School on Madeline Drive. It is accessible from Pasadena Avenue.




 



A Very Special Evening with Lisa See

We are delighted that author Lisa See will join us for an evening of cocktails, wine and appetizers, and a special presentation of her new novel , The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane.

Thanks to the author, this is a special fundraiser for the garden. Enjoy the evening for $50 per person which includes a copy of the book for the author to sign for you. 
 

The novel, recently released, tells the tale of a Chinese family whose life in a remote village revolves around the farming of tea. When one of the girls has a baby out of wedlock and puts her up for adoption, it sets in motion a story that explores culture, tradition, and the bonds between mothers and daughters.

Such themes are familiar to readers of Lee's earlier best-selling books: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Shanghai Girls, China Dolls, Peony in Love, and Dreams of Joy. The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane debuted at
No. 6 on the New York Times best-sellers list, and Kirkus Reviews praised it as "a riveting exercise in fictional anthropology."

Vocalist Judy Wexler has been garnering fans across the country and around the world. A touring and recording artist, she has headlined at jazz festivals, performing arts centers and major jazz clubs both nationally and internationally.

Judy is widely known as a straight-ahead jazz singer and an inspired interpreter of lyrics, who has been cited repeatedly by critics as having the rare ability to find the essential truth of a song. She displays an unerring ear for underexposed gems and possesses a pliably warm, lustrous sound.

She released her 4th CD, What I See, in September 2013 on the Jazzed Media label. Receiving wide national jazz radio airplay and stellar reviews, What I See showcases Wexler's close creative ties to her longtime pianist/arranger and co-producer Jeff Colella. Music Man Blog calls the CD "one of the best jazz albums of the year!"

Mindfulness Meditation Will Be Back in August!

Take a docent tour--free with admission at 11:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. on Open Thursday and 11:00 a.m. on Open Day Last Sunday. Reservations for the tours are not necessary but if there are more than six people in your group, please email the garden to let us know.    

Experience the peace of the garden on Open Thursday and the last Sunday of every month. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may make a reservation for admission on our website for $7.50 or pay $10 upon arrival (children 12 and under are free.) The garden is wheelchair accessible. Sorry, no pets allowed.
