Reading Buddies: Children practice reading with teen volunteers.             Mondays at 3pm.

Toddler Storytime: Ages 2-3 1/2 :  Tuesdays at 10:30am

Preschool Storytime: Ages 3 1/2 - 5: Tuesdays at 11:30am

Baby Storytime: Infants to age 2 :  Thursdays at 10:30am

Bilingual Storytime / Hora de Cuentos Bilingue:  Stories in English and Spanish. All Ages :  Fridays at 11am

Saturday Morning Stories: Volunteers read stories to kids in our Children's Room. Saturdays at 11am

Poolside Storytimes: Stories at the Ginny Duenkel Pool!  Thursdays at 2:30pm (A pool membership is required to attend this off-site storytime.)

July Programs for Children
Robots, Puppets, Trucks, and Art!


Wondergy presents an interactive journey from simple funny robots to complex (and super cute) humanoid robots. Explore the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) concepts that bring robotics to life! Grades K-5.

See backhoes, a bucket loader and trucks up close and personal when township trucks park in the library lot. Children get their own hardhats and can climb on board. All ages.  (Rain date Wednesday, July 19 at 2 pm)


The Montclair Art Museum Art Truck visits the Library to inspire yo u ng  artis ts' imaginations and develop their creative talents. All Ages.

The Three Little Pigs need new homes and are not sure if they can trust their architect, B.B.Wolfe. Award winning Crabgrass Puppet Theatre delivers a delightful and hilarious new take on an old tale. All Ages.

Noah's Ark Forest Friends workshop. Children's will select and hand stuff a plush pal! Registration Required. Ages Pre-K - 3rd grade.
July Programs for All Ages

Help build a better world Potter-style. Bring a pair of socks or other article of clothing to enter our very own Harry Potter World. Clothing will be donated to a local charity. Be sure to dress in theme for our costume contest! All Ages.




Crochet ClubFriday July 14th and July 28, 2pm-4pm
The club's main focus will be on crocheting hats for newborns to be collected and donated at the end of August to the Saint Barnabas NICU. All Ages and skill levels welcome - children, teens, adults!

We will have a limited supply of crotchet needles and yarn. If you have your own, please bring them to the club.  As we move forward with the club, please be sure to bring your materials and work to each meeting. Also, if you are more of knitter, please join us to knit during the club as well!

Fan Fiction Club: Tuesdays July 11 - August 15 from 4:00pm - 5:00
Do you love Harry Potter? Can you not get enough of Percy Jackson? Join other fans as you create and share stories based on the characters and worlds you know so well! Snacks provided at each club meeting.                                         (Best for Middle Grade / Middle School Ages)

TeensSpeak!: Saturdays July 22nd- August 12th
The Michael Aymar Foundation, who ran the Raise the Grade series this past winter, is back with a summer series focused on public speaking.                   Grades 5-8.  Please Register.

Escape the Room: Wednesday, July 12th at 7:00pm
Work in teams to figure out clues and solve puzzles to "Escape the Room" or you might just get trapped in the library! Grades 6-12.

MAM Art Truck: Monday, July 17, 4:00-6:00 pm.

Writing Workshop: Wednesday, July 19th 4pm-5:30pm
Do you love to write and build worlds with your words? Then come to our summer teen writing workshop With YA Author Jennifer Walkup. Grades 4-8

Super Smash Bros. Gaming Tournament: Wednesday, July 19th at 7:00pm
Join your friends for the ultimate tournament of Super Smash Bros. for the WiiU! Grades 6-12. Registration Required to participate. No registration necessary to watch and cheer!

Harry Potter World: Wednesday, July 26th at 7:00pm

Teen Karaoke Night!: Wednesday, August 2nd at 7:00pm
Sing, laugh, and have a blast at our teen karaoke night! Register in advance to request a specific song. Walk-ins will be able to choose a song from a pre-made playlist. Not much for singing in front of people? Come by to support your friends! Snacks and refreshments provided. Grades 6-12.

Illustration Workshop: Wednesday, August 9th at 7:00pm
Dream of drawing your own comics or manga one day? Get inspired by illustrator and West Orange's own Paul Walcott! Paul will share his story, offer a drawing demo, and then guide artists in an illustration exercise. Grades 6-12. (Great for anime fans too!)

Volunteer Opportunities
We always need extra help in the summer! Here are some of our Summer Teen Volunteer Opportunities. To learn more, CLICK HERE , call 973-736-0198 x216 or visit the Children's Room and ask to speak with either Kris or Faith.

Sign up to be a Reading Buddy! Encourage children who are learning to read by reading a book out loud together. Program runs 3pm-4pm on Mondays July 10-August 14. 

Storytime Volunteer! Do you like reading stories to children? Then sign up to be a storytime volunteer this summer!  Program runs Saturdays at 11am from July 15-August 19. (Ages 16+)

Library Assistant and Program Helper:  Help us in the Children's Room and/or getting prepped for and running our summer programs.  Flexible schedules available. (Ages 16+)

Review New YA books!  Are you in grades 6-12? Do you love to read YA books? Do you want to share your opinion about what you read? Then become a book reviewer for the library! July Programs for Adults

The first in our local author series. Come learn about and listen to jazz music!  The Encyclopedia of Newark Jazz is Barbara Kukla's sixth book about the people of Newark and its rich history. Carrie Jackson, a New York / New Jersey based jazz vocal stylist will perform.



 
Saturday July 15, 10am-12pm.
Artist Ann Vollum leads a workshop on how we can re-purpose discarded books to  create art. No artistic experience needed!  Please bring any art supplies you would like to experiment with, otherwise, materials will be provided. 



Celtic Music Program:  Monday July 24, 7:00pm-8:00pm.
Harpist Joanne Egan and storyteller Julie Daidone create a Celtic tapestry with music, stories, poems, and songs from Scotland, Iceland, and Wales. Funded by the Local Arts Grant.
 


July Adult Book Discussion Monday July 10th, 1:30pm-2:30pm.
