Director's Corner:
The PTAC team welcomes
Scott Barker!
Scott joined the Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC) at East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville as a Procurement Counselor in May.  Scott provides PTAC service to the SBTDC offices at East Carolina University, University of North Carolina-Wilmington and Elizabeth City State University.  He recently retired from the U.S. Army after more than 30 years, sixteen years of that was spent overseas.

Scott's experience includes climbing the enlisted ranks up to sergeant; he then was commissioned and served as a second lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps.  From there he became company commander at the National Inventory Control Point.  Scott served a short period in Panama before spending the next 13 years as a European Foreign Area Officer in Germany, Portugal, and France.  He speaks each of these languages.  He retired as a Colonel.

Marketplace
By Mark G. Mills, SBTDC/PTAC Program Director at North Carolina State University
If you did not attend Marketplace you missed out!  We had 51 booths consisting of prime contractors, local, state and federal agencies and service providers.  The seminars offered training on federal contracting basics, developing your government sales channel, state and local contracting, capability statements that work, certifications and affiliations and joint ventures and teaming arrangements.

I want to thank our sponsors Abt Associates, RTI International, NC Education Lottery, SAS, The Institute and North Carolina Veteran's Business Association.  The luncheon keynote speaker, Sepideh Saidi, President of SEPI Engineering & Construction was outstanding!

Thanks also to the team members from Representative G. K. Butterfield's (NC-1) office, Representative David Price's (NC-4) office, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) / NIH / NIEHS.

If you couldn't make it to Marketplace, you can still get answers to your government contracting questions.  Contact your local PTAC counselor for more information.   And our next big event, Opportunities, is being planned for the spring of 2018 in Asheville.  Check our events page for dates and agenda information coming soon.

By Rebecca Barbour, SBTDC/PTAC counselor at North Carolina State University
United Drug Supply (UDS) is a pharmaceutical and medical supply distributor dedicated to serving our nation's military facilities. As a WOSB Certified business, UDS has been on the fast track for growth since it's founding in 2010. The company was recently featured on the Inc 5000 list, was named one of America's Outstanding Navy Reserve Employers in 2016, and received America's Patriot Award in 2017.

UDS began their relationship with the North Carolina PTAC when several representatives attended a Marketplace conference. Since this introduction, UDS and their PTAC counselor have worked together on business development strategies and market research. Throughout this process, the company has continued to grow their federal sales, driven by the hard work and dedication of CEO Samantha Godfrey and her team.
