Are You on Track for Sandestin?
Now's the time to register for the MAFP Annual Scientific Assembly, July 15-19.  CONVENTION INFO AND ONLINE REGISTRATION   The MAFP room block was dropped this week, but rooms are still available at Sandestin Resort by calling (800) 320-8115.
MAFP Physicians Hold Orientation for 
New Resident and Student Board Members
New medical student and family medicine resident board members attended MAFP Board Orientation June 2 at MAFP headquarters. Introducing them to the MAFP's goals and primary focuses were Dr. Brent Smith of Cleveland, Dr. Jeremy Wells of Hattiesburg and MAFP staff members. The orientation covered lots of topics, but focused on board member roles and responsibilities, strategic goals of MAFP and Foundation, and national leadership opportunities. Attendees gave staff feedback on the Spring Fling conference, discussed strategies on how to get more students and residents involved, and shared best ways to communicate. Read More
At Rural Scholars Orientation, 
MAFP Staffers Meet Future Physicians
On Thursday, June 9, Mississippi's undergraduate future physicians learned about MAFP at orientation for the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program. Kay-Lynn Meador, Foundation and Workforce Director, and Jewell Buckley, Special Projects Coordinator, discussed the MAFP's mission, goals and educational programs. They also told students how MAFP  provides medical students and residents opportunities for earning scholarships and meeting practicing physicians.
Free CME: HPV Vaccine Safety
National AHEC Organization has announced a 1-hour self-study CME course on Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Safety. It gives 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit hour for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nurses. The course is free, online, on-demand and takes about one hour. The only requirement is that the course be finished by May 18, 2018.  Read More
MAFP Member Honored as Mississippi Sports Medicine Person of Year
MAFP Board member Dr. P. Brent Smith, a family physician at Family Medical Clinic in Cleveland, was named Sports Medicine Person of the Year for 2017 by the Mississippi Athletic Trainers' Association on June 6 at the group's annual meeting in Biloxi. He is pictured here on the left accepting the award from Richey Wood of MATA, right.
