Girls Tennis, Baseball, Track advance in postseason
Congratulations to our spring sports teams on completing successful seasons, especially the Girls Tennis and Baseball teams, which advanced far into their respective postseasons.

Last Saturday, the Baseball team competed in the Plainfield Semi-State and lost to No. 3 ranked Ritter High School. Earlier this month, the team won its second consecutive regional title.

Last week, the Girls Tennis team advanced the furthest a team has ever gone in program history, ending its perfect season as IHSAA Girls Tennis State Runner-Up with a record of 21-1. Also last weekend, the Boys Track team had two athletes compete in the IHSAA State Finals. Tyler Ettel '17 placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles and earned Boys Track All State. Micah Oberhausen '17 competed in shot put.

The Boys Golf team tied for fourth in sectional, just four strokes from qualifying to advance to regional. The Softball team lost in sectional semi-finals to eventual regional champion Henryville. As reported in the last eVision , the Girls Track team placed fourth at sectional and sent 10 athletes in six events to regional. Providence graduates ready for success
On May 25, 122 graduates crossed the stage and received their diplomas. We are proud of all the accomplishments of our 2017 graduating class: 70 percent received an Indiana Honors Diploma and 98 percent are headed to college, plus one enlisted in the U.S. Marines, one in the National Guard, and two others considering military service. Sixty-six percent of the senior class received scholarships to college, including $8.5 million in academic awards. Combined with community awards and athletic scholarships, the total is more than $9 million. The class also logged 10,133 service hours.

We also are pleased that so many of our students have a family tradition at Providence. Sixty of our graduates are children of alumni, with 15 of them having both parents who are alumni. Thirty-eight graduates are third-generation alumni, with 54 total grandparents who attended PHS.

Our graduates are headed to a variety of colleges, with many heading to in-state institutions including Purdue University, Ball State University, Indiana University Bloomington and Indiana University Southeast as well as local colleges University of Louisville and Bellarmine College. Students are also heading far afield, from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale and University of Dayton in Ohio to Marshall University in West Virginia, East Tennessee State University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida.

Fr. Adam to become full-time chaplain
We are thrilled to announce that Fr. Adam Ahern will become full-time chaplain beginning the 2017-2018 school year. Fr. Adam is one of two priests in the archdiocese who are full-time chaplains. Fr. Adam offers daily morning Mass as well as the Sacrament of Reconciliation during lunches at least once a week. Fr. Adam will be more visible in the building next school year -- and no doubt at even more sporting events.

Corrections from May 24 issue
In the May 24 issue, a story about the Girls Track team omitted the name of rising junior Haylee Hall, who competed in the regional in shot put. Additionally, the listing of award winners in the High School Fine Arts Fair reversed the places of the 2D contest. Rising sophomore Amanda Pasierbowicz placed second, and rising junior Griffin Rogers placed third. The corrected award results can be found here. We apologize for the errors.

Working together makes service more meaningful
As many of our students log their service hours to meet graduation requirements, they team up with friends to make the work more fun. A few of our students volunteer with their family. Some, like rising senior Scott Schueler and Taylor Marshall '13, make it an ongoing project or tradition to volunteer with their mothers.

Scott and his mother, Mrs. Karen (Popp) Schueler '83, were recently profiled in the St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities email newsletter for their commitment to mowing the agency's lawn. Taylor will be profiled in the upcoming Vision magazine for her repeated mission trips to Nicaragua to serve with the nonprofit organization Amigos for Christ. LET US PRAY

Summer Prayer

Father, Creator of all, thank You for summer!
Thank you for the warmth of the sun
and the increased daylight.
Thank You for the beauty we see all around us
and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation.
Thank You for the increased time we have to be with our friends and family,
and for the more casual pace of the summer season.
Draw us closer to You this summer.
Teach us how we can pray
no matter where we are or what we are doing.
Warm our souls with the awareness of Your presence
and light our paths with Your Word and Counsel.
As we enjoy Your creation, create in us
a pure heart, and a hunger and thirst for You.
Amen.
