Respect the Fireworks Ban
Celebrate the Fourth at Lake Boren
Fireworks are banned in the City of Newcastle, but, as always, there is one place where residents can legally watch the pyrotechnic displays light up the night sky.  Celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, food and music at Lake Boren Park. Food vendors arrive at 6 p.m., Soul Siren takes the stage at 8 p.m. and fireworks start at 10 p.m.
Newcastle City Council Agenda | July 5, 2017

The Downtown Strategic Plan will be a large focus of the July 5 Newcastle City Council meeting.  During the meeting, staff will present a list of proposed public realm projects associated with the plan and the City Council will consider an ordinance extending the moratorium on development in the Community Business Center.

The public will have a chance to comment on the moratorium and the six-year Transportation Improvement Program during two public hearings.
Residents Attend Council Town Hall Meeting

Police E-Alert: Garage Burglaries and Lake Boren Car Prowls

Officers have seen an increase in residential garage burglaries and Lake Boren Park car prowls. Police Chief Melinda Irvine offers these tips to keep yourself, your family and your property safe.

City Unveils Deputy Herzog Memorial Page

On June 22, 2002, Newcastle Deputy Richard A. Herzog was killed in the line of duty. He gave his life to protect the citizens of Newcastle. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

On June 22, 2017, marking 15 years since the tragedy, the city unveiled a special memorial page on its website, filled with photos and information about Deputy Herzog.

Seahawks Executive to Speak at CAC Meeting

Seattle Seahawks Chief Operating Officer Chuck Arnold will speak at the July 12 Newcastle Community Activities Commission meeting.

Arnold, a Newcastle resident, will talk about the team and answer questions at the beginning of the meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. at Newcastle City Hall (12835 Newcastle Way, Suite 200). The public is encouraged to attend!

Energize Eastside Phase 2 Draft EIS Comment Period Extended

The comment period on the Energize Eastside Phase 2 Draft EIS was extended. The deadline for submitting your comments is now through July 6, 2017. The deadline was previously Wednesday, June 21.

Washington State Fusion Center Training

A representative from the Washington State Fusion Center gave a presentation to city staff members this past week. The "see something, say something" message will help staff do their part to keep our community safe at upcoming summer events. 

 

The mission of the WSFC is to support the public safety and homeland security missions of state, local, tribal agencies and private sector entities. Learn more at wsfc.wa.gov.

School's Out For Summer!

Newcastle Police Officer Steve Kajihiro visited  Hazelwood Elementary School  on June 22 to bid farewell to students on their last day of school. 

He happily signed yearbooks and handed out stickers!

With students in all Newcastle school districts officially out for the summer, please drive safely and be alert for extra pedestrians around your neighborhoods, parks and playgrounds.
