BREWSTER DAY CAMP          Newsletter    July 2, 2017        Vol. 36 Issue 11

Hello Brewster Day Camp!

This week, a red-tailed hawk has been SOARing through camp, visiting our various activities. Hawks fly effortlessly for a long period of time without even flapping their wings. Similar to our hawk friends, BDC campers smoothly SOARed through Week 1; we intentionally took our time with each passing moment and reintegrated smoothly into camp as if no time passed from last year.

On Friday, we celebrated BDC SOARing through 36 years of camp with birthday cake and birthday hats! Next is Week #2 at BDC, and our Friday Special Event is Grad-titude Day - a special event day (inspired by the memory of Sam Grad) where we remember and channel the strong role models who SOARed through BDC throughout our 36 year history. Next Friday, each Program Head will plan a special activity which encompasses the values of Courage, Hope, Good Spirit, and Peace while helping us all reflect on that which we are grateful in our own way.

Like the hawk which flies high above us, BDC campers are setting summer goals such as AHAA (Admirals Hill Activity Achievement) or swimming in the deep end of our new pool. The BDC hawk can remind us that no goal is too high. We hope that this special hawk continues to check in on us and SOAR through camp, as it can cue us to slow down, take it easy, and SOAR effortlessly through the summer!

"Just try new things. Don't be afraid. Step out of your comfort zone and soar, all right?"
