Walking, Riding and Preparing for Employment: Good News from Around the Network

2017 NAMI Walk

The 2017 National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) walk was held on Saturday, May 20th in Centennial and what a turnout! AllHealth Network was front and center offering treats for walkers and furry friends alike. The walk spanned a mile offering an opportunity for attendees to gather together in support of those living with mental illness.

The annual NAMI walk serves as both an awareness and fundraising event in support of AllHealth Network's drop-in location, Center Point. To celebrate, staff hosted a kickoff BBQ the week before the walk and we hosted some very special guests.

Lorraine Schafer from Cintas Corporation gathered the regional sales team to raise money in support of Center Point, provided the food for the kickoff BBQ and even jumped behind the grills to serve up hotdogs and hamburgers to staff and clients.

"We are so grateful for this relationship with Cintas. They are a fantastic addition to our Center Point family," said Amy Lynch, Center Point supervisor.

AllHealth Network team was all smiles!

Thank you, Cintas Corporation for your generosity and energy.

AllHealth Network Clients Get a Boost in their Job Search

Earlier this month, AllHealth Network's Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program hosted mock interviews for AllHealth Network clients interested in taking steps toward employment. Just over 25 clients were paired with AllHealth Network staff as well as community representatives from University of Phoenix and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.

"We organized panel interviews and individual interviews to give clients a taste of  real-world situations they may face moving forward," said Jesse Huebner, Vocational Specialist with AllHealth Network and event organizer.

Clients signed up for half-hour-long slots and had the opportunity to receive feedback from participating interviewers. Feedback included positive comments as well as highlighting potential areas each interviewee could improve upon.

"This event really provided a multifaceted opportunity to promote our program within the agency as well as bringing in external partners who are so critical to our success," said Huebner.

"It was such a popular event and so needed for clients who may be worried about the next step in their recovery, that we're planning a fall event," he added.

The individual placement and support (IPS) program is an evidenced-based supported employment program. It helps people with mental illness find and keep jobs, while at the same time providing employers with access to motivated employees.

Participating employers gain immediate access to pre-screened job applicants, as well as additional support and on-the-job coaching from vocational specialists for employees who may need it.

Good Things are Growing at Center Point

As many of us spend the weekends improving our own lawns and gardens, AllHealth Network clients at Center Point are getting busy as well. Between the garden located on the property and a thriving plot in the community garden, hardworking staff and clients have their hands (and baskets!) full of produce such as cilantro, spinach, cucumbers, lettuce, chard, beets, peppers, beans and pumpkins. The porch is full of colorful flowers donated by Littleton-area O'Tool's Garden Center, folks are enjoying the patio and plans are underway to build a sensory space for clients as well as lots of community events to bring Center Point clients out and about.

Are you interested in supporting our friends at Center Point? We have lots of ways to get involved! Items on the Summer Fun Wishlist include:
  • Bags of potting mix
  • Large gardening tools,
  • Shovels, rakes, a timer for the hose, hand held sprayers
  • Terracotta pots, large and small, planters for the porch
  • New umbrellas for patio tables; total of four tables.
In addition to gardening supplies, Center Point clients recently took a fishing trip to Evergreen Lake and have asked for more fishing gear to accommodate larger groups. All in-kind donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated!
