A Toast to America!
Did you know that our Founding Fathers celebrated the signing of the Declaration of Independence with Madeira wine? Bottles of Madeira wine dating back to the 19th Century were discovered at the Liberty Hall Museum, which is part of Kean University in New Jersey. To
celebrate the strong ties between the United States and Portugal, A Toast to America is celebrated across the Portuguese-American communities of the United States. The Consul-General of Portugal in Newark celebrated their Toast this past Friday, June 23rd. The celebration included performances by the trio of Paulo Esteireiro, Mário André and Nuno Nicolau, of the
braguinha
and other Madeiran instruments.
