School's out and summer's here! Woodbury Parks and Recreation is proud to offer a wide selection of engaging programs to keep everybody active and having fun this summer! Check out the listings on what's going on below or see an overview of the summer's calendar.

As weather can be unpredictable, please check our website  for all of the up-to-date information regarding all of our programs.  In the event of any changes to programs (including rain dates), our website will have the current class make-up and cancellation information!  If you're not sure, you can always call our office or email us at the information below.

Nutrition & Weights
Mondays, starting  July 3

Nutrition and Weights is a total body conditioning with weights class and a nutrition class for weight management. Our 30 minute Nutrition Class includes basic nutrition guidelines, daily food & exercise tracking, recipes for nutrient dense meals, estimated serving sizes, reading food labels, balancing fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water, weekly weigh-ins and group support.
Our 30 minute Total Body Conditioning with Weights class includes strengthening and stretching all major muscle groups. It is designed to increase lean muscle tissue and boost metabolism. A core workout will conclude this class.

Yoga Prana Flow
Mondays, starting July 3

Prana Flow Yoga®  moves through active  breath guided flowing asana sequences with a focus on postural and energetic alignment and nature imagery.  The sequences integrate standing, balancing, back bending, forward bending, twisting and joint opening (shoulder, hip, spine) asanas while strengthening, limbering, releasing tension, and centering body and mind.  

Tennis Camp

Brush up on your skills or learn the game for the first time! All levels of experience welcome. Included in camp is a video tape analysis of your tennis game! 

Ultimate Frisbee

Interested in a fun, team spirited, casual sport?  Come join the Woodbury Ultimate Frisbee club.  We welcome members of all ability levels.  Don't know how to play?  That is ok, we will teach you!  Played before and would like to play again?  Please come and join us; we would love to have you join the fun but first please register online.

Rock Band Summer Program will teach you everything you'll need to know to play in a band, from choosing songs, to rehearsing, to performing and having a lot of fun in the process.

Since 1997 Coach Gregg Hunt and his staff from the Torrington Twisters, Torrington Titans and Manchester Silkworms have conducted baseball clinics throughout Litchfield County for over 4,000 players. The clinics combine fundamental instruction, contests, games and a love of the game. The clinic staff has many years of combined coaching experience at the youth, high school and college level.

Please note the pricing and select accordingly: 
$110 per week, $195 for two weeks, $265 for three weeks


Summer Acting Intensive

Students will find their voices, led by professional resident artists.  The Shakesperience approach embodies the philosophy of the company and leads to a strong, disciplined ensemble, grounded in language and positive interaction as they create a fun and exciting adaptation of The Tempest The program will consist of activities such as warm-ups, lectures, exercises, and other means of learning the play and the children's role in it.

TINY HAWKS (Soccer & Basketball)

AGES 3 - 4 years old

The essentials of soccer and basketball are introduced in a fun and safe environment with lots of encouragement.  Children will learn balance, body movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development through a series of sport-specific games tailored to their attention spans. Please bring appropriate clothing, water bottle, running shoes, and sunscreen.

MINI HAWKS (Soccer, Baseball, & Basketball)

AGES 4 - 7 years old

This multi-sport program was developed to give children a positive first step into athletics. The essentials of each sport are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. All games and activities are designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination and skill development at their own pace.

Basketball Camp for Girls

For girls entering grades 3-9.

A basketball camp to develop basketball fundamentals, compete in multiple basketball challenges, play in competitive team competitions and have fun while doing it.  Athletes will get an array of learning opportunities; from whole group, to small group, to one on one.  It will be a great opportunity for all girls to grow as a player, an athlete and a teammate.  The director of the camp will be Nonnewaug Chiefs Girls' Basketball Coach Adam Brutting.

How Cool Is That? Hands On Science
July 31 - August 4

How Cool Is That?! (Hands-On Science)  returns with hands-on/minds-on science activities taught by certified Connecticut teacher, Velya Jancz-Urban. Students will not be glued to their chairs doing worksheets - instead, they will be active participants in their science learning. Active investigations nurture curiosity and develop positive attitudes toward science which will last a lifetime.

Hollow Park Fun Day

Meet at Hollow Park, spend the day playing "Jumbo Games" such as Jenga, Checkers, Skittles, Connect, and more... Play at the river, basketball, volleyball, playground, arts and crafts, come and hang with your friends and make some new ones.

Registration is open for U4-5,U6-7 shorter sessions and  U8 and up half-day or fullday sessions

Paid Focus Group Volunteers Wanted!

Do you want to have a say about how to balance future development benefits and environmental outcomes? Do you want to get $50 cash by joining a 2-hour discussion with other residents?

A research team from the University of Connecticut is seeking paid volunteers to participate in informal discussions or "focus groups" (about 6~10 people/group) to help identify the values and tradeoffs residents might have for new approaches to sustain water resources as communities grow.

Time and location (To be determined): July 10-July 22, 2017

The exact time and locations will be determined by the availability of our participants.

Horse Back Riding

Skyhawks Track & Field combines technical development, fundamental techniques and safety with a major focus on fun! Using special equipment, boys and girls learn the fundamentals of body positioning, stride, proper stretching and cool-down techniques.

You Gotta Believe Basketball Camp

**New this year: extended day option. Players may sign up for camp from 8 AM - 2 PM.
Woodbury Middle School

Bret Nichols high school counselor, author, motivational speaker and professional basketball player who played in Ireland, England and against the world famous Harlem Globetrotters as player/coach of the New York Nationals is offering the You Gotta Believe Basketball Camp with his coaches. All aspects of game are explored including offense, defense and foul shooting.
