Member Spotlight

ANAC members from across the US called and emailed their elected officials this past month and declared their opposition to the House and Senate bills attempting to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.  Nurses and other providers responded to ANAC action alerts and let Congress know that health care access must be maintained and that Medicaid and Planned Parenthood are important to the patients and communities we serve. While the House bill did pass, the Senate version remains under consideration. Both are unacceptable. Our patients and communities deserve our advocacy. This is not over and much more is to come!
We are proud to announce ANAC members LaRon E. Nelson, PhD, RN, FNP, FNAP - University of Rochester; Comfort Chu Enah, PhD, RN - University of Alabama at Birmingham; and Teri Aronowitz, PhD, APRN, FNP-BC - University of Massachusetts Boston have been selected as fellows of the American Academy of Nursing. Fellow selection criteria includes evidence of significant contributions to nursing and health care and is highly selective. Congratulations to all!

Global

The Kaiser Family Foundation  recently released a report on the impact of budget cuts to global health funding, proposed by the Trump administration. It presents different scenarios of increasing HIV infections and TB cases, based on the levels of cuts. The administration's budget is just the first step in a process. Congress now begins to work on their version of a budget for October 2017. ANAC will advocate to Congress that any cuts are not acceptable and will slow the remarkable progress made in turning the tide in the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
