Taking Pride in Comprehensive Cancer Work

The GW Cancer Center was proud to celebrate Pride Month in June, a time each year to honor and support LGBTQ people and communities. On June 11, we educated attendees at the 42nd Annual Capital PRIDE Festival on GW's identify-affirming approach to cancer prevention, screening, treatment and survivorship. We shared the results of an exciting new exercise intervention to reduce psychological distress among lesbian, gay and heterosexual cancer survivors in our GATE resource repository. Members of our team also recently published a  Conquer Magazine article on  recognizing LGBTQ cancer survivors . Check it out today!

We hope to continue the momentum of Pride Month as we advance our work on LGBTQ cancer health equity through two studies to improve care and inform educational resources for providers and cancer patients. You can contribute to this important work by sharing recruitment materials like these posters with your networks or being screened for participation if you are a sexual or gender minority who has been diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer. Contact us at [email protected] for more information.

Celebrating Cancer Survivors

Each year on the first Sunday in June, National Cancer Survivors Day® offers an opportunity for celebration, inspiration, support and outreach to survivors and their families. Here at the GW Cancer Center, we support survivors throughout the year by providing important resources like our National Cancer Survivorship Resource Center Toolkit and e-learning series for primary care providers, recently featured in the CDC Learning Connection website.
