Worship with Us this Week!
|
Join us this Sunday morning for Traditional Worship at 9:30am and/or Informal Worship at 11am when our scriptures will be Genesis 18:1-15, 21:1-7 and Matthew 10:16-23 with a sermon entitled To Laugh or Not to Laugh. Sarah laughed when she heard that she and Abraham would have a baby in old age. Jesus tells the disciples about the costs of discipleship. This faith is light and joyful as well as challenging and heavy. How do we balance? When do you laugh?
We will share in a litany for Father's Day.
Please remember to bring a dozen or two of your father's/grandfather's favorite cookie - home baked or store bought - for Fellowship Time. Simply place them on the table when you arrive. Thank you!

Parkway UCC Orchestra 2017 Schedule
The orchestra will rehearse in the choir room from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. on May 21, June 18 (Father's Day), July 16, September 17, October 15, and November 19. We will have concerts at Cape Albeon from 7:00 to 8:00P.M., assembling about 6:30 P.M., on August 20 and December 3. We will start rehearsals in 2018 on May 20. We may have a concert at Parkway's 11:00 A.M. service in August and perhaps a concert in August at Mari de Villa nursing home in Town & Country. Attire for the August concert(s) is church casual, and for the December concert is Christmas casual. Music stands will be provided for those persons who do not own a music stand. Christmas music will be used starting with the September 17 rehearsal.

Notes to Africa
Denyse has mentioned that the children in her village love anything involving English words. Most students in Tanzania attend Swahili speaking primary schools, but then are instructed in English once they enter secondary school. It's a challenge for teachers and students. I'm sure the kids in her village would love to receive a written note from someone in the United States. I also thought they would love to receive that note on a postcard with a picture on the front. So what I'm asking, if you are willing and interested, whether you travel this summer, or stay in town, grab a post card and write a note on it. We'll put a box in the gathering space or church office to collect them. Toward the end of summer I'll send all of the postcards to Denyse and she can distribute them.
You are a generous group of people! I thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers for Denyse while she is on this journey and I also thank you for the same you offered me during my recuperation. Your kindness is a blessing.

From the Ashes invites audiences to learn more about an industry on the edge and what it means for their lives.
This is a great opportunity to discuss positive actions towards a clean energy future. Now is the time when people are standing up and demanding we protect Creation and the health of the planet.
St Louis 2017 PrideFest Volunteers Needed

Magic Penny
After putting their three-year-old child Brian in bed, his parents heard muffled sobs coming from his room one night. Rushing back in, they found that the child was crying hysterically when he saw them. He told his parents that he had accidentally swallowed a penny and was sure that he would die now. The father, in an attempt to sober him down, took out a penny from his pocket and pretended to pull it out from Brian's ear. The child was really thrilled and stopped crying at once. In a flash, he snatched the penny from his dad's hand, swallowed it, and then cheerfully demanded, "Do it again, Dad!"
