Happy 4th of July!
Here's a little tidbit I just learned. According to
In Pure Spirit, Julius Caesar added the month of July to the calendar in 46BC, naming it after himself. When your emperor you can do things like that. I guess the only question I have is what did they do in 45BC without July? Hmm...things to ponder! I am so glad to have July to celebrate Independence Day and a host of golf tournaments! The 4th of July is a busy day at PGC. We start the day at 5am with our usual morning prep: mowing greens, changing cups, raking bunkers and watering flowers if needed. Then we come back at 4pm to have a picnic we our families and stag ourselves at all the greens to keep them safe from all who love to enjoy the fireworks from the course. We try to pick up as much litter as we can that night because the next morning prep starts again at 5am. Here's another little tidbit, aerosol bug repellent will burn the turf. Best place to spray yourself or anyone else is anywhere but on the grass.
Last year we participated in a milkweed program to promote a habitat for the Monarch Butterflies. We planted the 300 plants of swamp and common milkweed along the shoreline of holes 3 and 4. They are easy to spot in the natural area between the 3rd fairway and the bridge. Hope you take a minute to enjoy their beauty!
I was hoping to be "Buckthorn Free" by the end of June, but due to equipment malfunction we will have to push that goal into July. We also started the search for a consultant for the shoreline project. The plan is to interview and select a consultant for Board approval in August. Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
