Brookfield Properties Buys California Market Center

New York-based Brookfield Properties closed on a $440 million deal to take over the California Market Center (CMC) at 9th and Main Streets. As per Brookfield, the CMC presents "an opportunity to take a historic building complex for L.A. fashion and apparel and trade events and make it a forward-thinking office and mart for creative users." The CMC is the largest wholesale mart in the Fashion District. L.A. Brookfield is the largest Class A office landlord in downtown Los Angeles. Read the full story in the

Dearden's Closing after 108 Years

Dearden's Furniture is closing its eight stores, including the one at 700 S Main St. in the Fashion District. Dearden's cited changes in customer behavior and the retail market as the reason for its closing. The L.A. Times reported on the story, here .

Spring Street Closure Information
Holland Partner Group will be installing and upgrading the LADWP Infrastructure underneath Spring Street between 8th and 7th Streets, and 7th Street between Broadway and Spring Street.  The improvement to the infrastructure will serve current LADWP customers, the Spring Street Towers, and future developments.

The improvement plan will occur over the course of seven consecutive weeks with the targeted completion date in mid-July 2017. The project will include full street closures on Spring Street, between 7th Street and 8th Street, from Friday evening at 8 p.m. through Saturday evening at 8 p.m. In addition, work will occur Monday through Friday during non­peak traffic hours (9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) and will include lane closures, not full street closure, on Spring and 7th Streets.   • Full closure on S Spring St between 7th-8th Streets on Saturdays June 10, 2017 - July 18, 2017
  • 1 lane closure on S Spring St between 7th-8th Streets weekdays from June 17 - July 18, 2017
  • 1 lane closure on 7th St between Spring & Broadway weekdays from June 5 - June 27, 2017
6th Street Closure Information
6th Street will be closed at the I-110 Freeway for five months, as City construction crews work on Metro's Regional Connector Transit Program. See the links below for more information.


Mermaid on Main
Oakland-based artist, Hueman recently completed a colorful mural at 828 Main St, title "Mermaid on Main." The mural shows the back of a woman's head, her colorful purple mane flowing behind her. It's the artists largest mural to date and the sixth mural to go up in the Fashion District. See it at 9th and Main Streets.

Last Remaining Seats
