2017 Conference
SLA extends a warm and heartfelt "Thank You" to everyone - organizers, attendees and exhibitors for their efforts in making the SLA 75th Conference a huge success. Presenters are welcome to send copies of their presentation to add to the conference archive.  Thank you!

SLA Board of Directors
The SLA has confirmed its Board of Directors for 2017, including two new Board members. See who's on the Board here.

New Institutional Membership Fee Structure 
At the recent SLA AGM, the members approved a revised  structure and fees for Institutional Memberships.  Read about it in the  attached letter and revised membership form.

Summer Social
Mark your calendars for the SLA Summer Social, July 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. But, we need help arranging for locations outside of Regina (
Linda Winkler stepped up for Regina).  Please send your suggestions to slacomm@sasktel.net no later than June 25th.  We'll announce the location In the July 1 newsletter and, on July 15, we will announce the locations and organizers. 

There's not a lot needed to make the event a huge success. On the day of the social, organizers will arrive prior to 5:00  and set up a table. Take photos to send to SLA Facebook and Twitter (#sasklasummer2017). Attendees cover their own beverages and eats.  After the event, please send the number of attendees (and the photos, with identification names and photo credit) to slacomm@sasktel.net. It's simple and easy!!!

Grant Application Open - Deadline August 15
Libraries Matter!
Need help funding your SLW Program? The Saskatchewan Library Association is offering twenty five $250 grants to member libraries to help celebrate Saskatchewan Library Week (SLW).

2017 is SLA's 75th anniversary. Our theme this year is " Libraries Matter"" the anniversary and theme into your projects. Applications will be juried by members of the Program Committee and all decisions will be final.

Grants available for SLA members
The Saskatchewan Library Association (SLA) is pleased to offer a new $1,500 Anniversary Conference Grant.

SLA also offers Continuing Education grants to provide and support relevant educational opportunities for its members. 
The deadline for applications for both grants is August 15, 2017.

Maureen Woods Education Bursary
T he SLA is pleased to accept applications for the Maureen Woods Education Bursary.  The bursary was established to promote the continued growth of professional librarianship in the province of Saskatchewan. SLA is offering a single bursary in the amount of $5,000.00. The deadline for applications is October 30, 2017.
   Note:  the online application is not open at this time. 

Call for Committee Volunteers
There are still great opportunities for involvement in SLA committees. If you have already responded but would like to volunteer for an extra committee. or if you haven't volunteered yet, just follow the directions in the attached or use the form Interested in helping but don't know how, email Judy at  slaexdir@sasktel.net. 
 
U.N. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
At the Canadian Library Association (CLA) National Forum in Ottawa, libraries across Canada were asked to provide copies of the the U.N. declaration to their patrons.  SLA invites all libraries across Saskatchewan to consider actively promoting this

L ibrary Technician/Assistant of the Year Award
The Saskatchewan Association of Library Technicians has recently launched its  Library Technician/ Assistant of the Year Award  to recognize outstanding Library Technicians or Assistants in Saskatchewan Libraries. The deadline for entries is July 31, 2017. More information is available here and on the  website.

Exchange partner sought
A library officer at the Port Adelaide library in Australia is looking for an  exchange partner.

Celebrate National Aboriginal Day on June 21st
June is National Aboriginal History Month, an opportunity for all Canadians to learn about and celebrate the many contributions and cultures of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. The initiative continues to grow each year, with many events and celebrations held to mark the occasion; check out Canadian Heritage for a list of activities in your area.
 
The month is also an opportunity for further reflection and action on the 94 Calls to Action issued by Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada to promote reconciliation among Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canada.
