David Lowenthal, MD
 Appointed CPI's Medical Director

We are pleased to announce that David Lowenthal, MD has been appointed Medical Director of the Center for Practice Innovations. In this role, Dr. Lowenthal will play a key role in advancing our commitment to medical education and training.

Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Lowenthal graduated from Yale Law School and worked as a corporate attorney in New York City. After a good deal of soul-searching, he made the decision to switch career paths, attending medical school at Columbia University, where he went on to complete his residency in Psychiatry.  Dr. Lowenthal spent 11 years working as an inpatient psychiatrist on the Washington Heights Community Service of New York State Psychiatric Institute prior to becoming the Clinical Director at NYSPI in 2008.  He has also served as Vice-Chair for Clinic Faculty Development in Columbia's Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Lowenthal has a long-standing interest in working with underserved populations and has particular expertise in treating individuals with psychotic disorders. He also is very committed to teaching and training, having worked closely with trainees from a variety of clinical disciplines during his 20 years as an attending psychiatrist at NYSPI.  Dr. Lowenthal has subspecialty training in forensic psychiatry, and is also very interested in professional ethics, as he teaches psychiatric ethics to the adult psychiatric residents at Columbia and has served on the Ethics Committee at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia campus) for many years.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Lowenthal to this important leadership role at CPI.
