REFLECTIONS FROM FR. RICK

"Children are a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is a gift."  -- Psalm 127:4

This upcoming week June 19-23 St. Michael's will embark on one of our annual key outreach ministries to the families in College Park with our Vacation Bible School.  More than 100 children are expected to be welcomed and spiritually nourished by Tiffany, our dedicated staff, and faithful servant-volunteers who are called into this important and vital ministry.

As Episcopalians we believe that children and families are essential to our lives together as a spiritual community. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus took the children in his arms, put his hand on them, and blessed them. There was no question of how the disciples were to treat the children. The children were to move to the center of the adults, to come closer to God to be blessed.  The second is as soon as children are baptized they are members and full participants in the Eucharistic community and in the church's common life of prayer, witness, and service.

We believe that the church is called:
  • to receive, nurture and treasure each child as a gift from God;
  • to proclaim the Gospel to children, in ways that empower them to receive and respond to God's love;
  • to give high priority to the quality of planning for children and the preparation and support of those who minister with them;
  • to include children, in fulfillment of the Baptismal Covenant, as members and full participants in the Eucharistic community and in the church's common life of prayer, witness and service.
"The voice of the young is rich with hope and alive with truth. We would hear it, O God, and be wiser. We would cherish the gifts of the children among us and seek to know you in them." Amen.

Please pray for the children, their families and all those who faithfully serve them in Christ's name.

In Christ's Love,

Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, we welcome and accept you, and we trust God to take you where God wants you in God's timing.  We want to be a safe place for you to experience God's grace, love, and presence with us. Welcome home, Beloved.

SUMMER CHOIR sings!  Members who are still in town sit with families, and come up to sing a choir anthem at the Offertory, returning during the singing of the Doxology.

JULY
This July, we will have soloists from the choir singing at the Offertory.  July 9 & 30 are scheduled to date, and I hear a trio is looking to sing on July 2 or 16.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
18 members of the Adult & Youth Choirs, and  SEVEN of the Angels Choir (A FIRST!) will be singing at the oldest Episcopal church in Florida -- Trinity, St. Augustine -- for the 11:15 service on July 23.  Making a weekend out of this event, folks will be driving up on Friday, and returning Sunday afternoon.
