10 Tips for What to Do When You're in Over Your Head

You know that sinking feeling you get when you say yes to too many requests, take on too much when you know you won't be able to tackle it all, feel obligated to push yourself to the limit out of fear, anxiety, depression, loneliness,  competitiveness or something else? Being in over your head is never pleasant, yet it doesn't have to reduce you to a blubbering mess.

Here are some practical tips for what to do when you find yourself in over your head.

1. Take a deep breath.
2. Admit you took on too much - and ask for help.
3. Prioritize what must be done - not everything on your to-do list.
4. Pace yourself.
5. Make use of stress-reducing relaxation techniques.
6. Watch caffeine and energy-drink intake.
7. Enlist a friend to help.
8. Learn time management.
9. Know when it's time to stop.
10. Strive to maintain healthy work-life balance.

Summer in a Cup Smoothie

Simple 5-ingredient smoothie that tastes like summer in a cup! Raspberries, frozen banana, 2 pure fruit juices and creamy almond milk make the healthiest, tart-sweet smoothie ever.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/4 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1 large ripe, sliced and frozen banana (~1 cup)
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 3/4 cup plain unsweetened almond milk
  1. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until creamy and smooth, scraping down sides as needed.
  2. Taste and adjust flavor as needed. Add more milk or fruit juice if too thick. Add more frozen banana if not sweet enough. Serve immediately. Freezes well (or make into popsicles).

Keep These Healthy Snacks at your Desk to Stave off Midday Hunger

You eat a big breakfast and even a satisfying lunch, but it never fails that by 3 p.m. you're famished. Though the office vending machine, with all of its not-so-healthy options, may be good for a quick fix, a better long-term solution would be to stash away a few healthy snacks at your desk.

"Focus on the kinds of snacks that are filling, with adequate amounts of protein, fiber and that are nutrient dense, in that they provide a lot of vitamins and minerals that are low in calories," said Lisa M. Davis, chief nutrition officer of  Terra's Kitchen healthy food delivery service.

There are many options that fit those parameters, so to narrow the field Davis and other experts shared some of their top choices.
  • Plant-based chips
  • Dark chocolate
  • Red bell peppers
  • Dried fruit
  • Granola
  • Hummus and carrots
