Dear Friends,
There's a native American folktale about the industrious little hummingbird. One day a terrible fire broke out in a forest and the huge woodlands was suddenly engulfed by the conflagration. Frightened and discouraged, all the animals fled their homes and ran out of the forest - except for one little hummingbird. Instead, this hummingbird swooped into the nearby stream and picked up a few drops of water in its beak, and dropped them on the fire. The bird flew back and forth, again and again. All the other animals watched in disbelief, and some even tried to discourage the hummingbird with comments like "you're too small, your beak is too tiny, it's only a drop, what good will you do?" And the hummingbird, without wasting time losing a beat, looked back and said, "I'm doing what I can."
Each year, Reeves-Reed Arboretum celebrates with a fantastic garden party, ART in the Garden. This past Saturday's event was a major success. We were surrounded by friendly faces who generously donated and participated in what is perhaps the most important single fundraising event for the Arboretum. And each person, like the magnificent hummingbird, does what they can to help support our vision and our dreams. It doesn't matter how large or small your participation - what matters is that you care, and that in caring, you make a real difference.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Staff of Reeves-Reed Arboretum, I wholeheartedly thank you for helping to make ART in the Garden 2017 one of the most successful fundraising events ever.
Cheers,
