Fred Anderson: Shepherd of the Past, Steward of the Future

After 38 years of service, Fred Anderson, executive director of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society, will retire this summer. The summer edition of the BGAV Express features an in-depth and compelling retrospective of Fred Anderson's contributions to preserving the history of Virginia Baptist life.

"It's a powerful thing to think about - what one person can do." Read the full article.

Spending Summertime for Service
A number of students and young adults are sharing Christ's love across Virginia and the world in various and meaningful ways. The BGAV provides opportunities for mission service domestically or abroad through its partners.

Venturers are individuals at least 18 years of age who support the ministries of BGAV partners around the world for a period of six months to two years. BGAV partners request Venturers for ongoing ministries as well as specific, targeted needs. Keep up with the experiences of the ones serving in Romania, Vienna, and Ghana.

Students and young adults are also serving at Impact Mission Camps around Virginia and on Disaster Response teams. Please keep all these young missionaries listed below in your prayers this summer. Download a flyer of this list. Feel free to post and share around your church!

World Hunger Funds Program
The BGAV Hunger Ministry supports ongoing and project-based hunger ministries in communities throughout Virginia by providing supplemental funding for our churches, associations, and ministry partners. Your church can apply for assistance! Requests will now be processed and disbursed on a quarterly basis, according to the schedule available online.

BGAV Joins Rural Development Coalition in Virginia
The Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) is partnering with Bluefield College, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia (CBFVA), and Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) in a new Together For Hope (TFH) initiative in Southwest Virginia. These partners signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding committing to collaborate with local leaders to birth and nurture a ministry presence in the southwest region of the state.

Formed in 2001, TFH is the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship's 20-year commitment to the 20 poorest counties in the United States. TFH was birthed with the strong conviction that the keys to alleviating poverty in these rural areas can be found within the people who live there. The approach is called Asset Based Community Development.  Read more.

PRAYER POINT
Father, thank you for this wonderful world you created. Next Tuesday, we celebrate the birth of a great nation, the United States of America. We are grateful for our forefathers who used their gifts and talents to form a more perfect union and for those who sacrificed their lives so that we may have peace among nations. We ask you to speak to the hearts of those in leadership roles today, and we pray they turn to you in every situation. Protect our military who help to preserve the land of the free. Thank you, God, for the daily blessing of freedom. Amen.
