Our FREE Tuesday Visitor Wake Up Reception series starts next Tuesday, June 20 and continues through Tuesday, August 15, 2017. Enjoy displays from attractions in the area, local businesses and food. Each event provides a sample of things to do and see in the Raystown Lake area and Huntingdon County. The Wake-Up Reception is open from 9:30am-10:30am. Food is available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Door prizes will be drawn at 10:30am. June Art Walk will follow Huntingdon's 250th Anniversary (this month's theme) on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 5-8 PM. There will be 10-15 locations in Huntingdon. The June 15th Art Walk includes:* Juniata College Museum of Art will feature the science comic art of Huntingdon resident Jay Hostler* The Vogues-Wagon Photo Booth will be located in the parking lot of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church on Moore Street* Standing Stone Coffee Co. * Sweethearts Confectionery invites participants to decorate their own cupcake $.* Parks Design and Ink will be doing Spin Art make and take t-shirts $.* Stone Town Cafe, Wine Bar and Gallery* American Legion Post 24 will have pencil pinwheels, using commemorative pencils from Huntingdon's 250th Anniversary and a print making/tile project as part of a community art project for a Girl Scout Gold Award project* Studio One Fifteen will be having a beach themed painting where people can put their footprints on an ocean/sand background that they painted. And finishing the summer on August 19 is returning favorite Eric Ian Farmer. He keeps alive classics by artists like Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, and Bob Marley, as well as shares his own songs about relationships, social awareness, and finding one's path in life. All concerts begin at 7 pm on the beach. Snacks and drinks will be for sale by the Friends group. The summer concert series began in the summer of 2015 to increase awareness and to raise funds for projects in Whipple Dam State Park. A $5 donation is suggested. The Summer Concert Series is sponsored by the Friends of Greenwood Furnace, Whipple Dam, and Penn-Roosevelt State Parks. All donation proceeds go to the Friends group for projects at Whipple Dam State Park. 2017 marks the commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the Founding of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. The Huntingdon County Historical Society plans a gallery exhibit as part of the festivities. The exhibit will include fine art paintings, JC Blair Company artifacts, Native American artifacts, and historical documents including early original tavern licenses from Huntingdon, railroad artifacts, old photos over the years, old maps, pottery, textiles, military artifacts and digital display lectures. The exhibit will be June 1st to October 1st, 2017. Join us as Shaver's Creek Environmental Education Center presents its popular Birds of Prey program on Saturday, June 24, at 7:30 pm in the Blacksmith Shop. You will see many specimens of live birds of prey, and learn about their role in the environment. Have you ever watched a hawk soar in the sky or heard an owl hoot at night? How about seeing an osprey dive in a lake and come up with a fish? Have you ever seen a bald or golden eagle up close? These majestic birds of prey are an important part of a balanced ecosystem.
