There are two more opportunities for you to provide feedback on the Advancing Age Friendly Edmonton and Edmonton Seniors Centres Strategy projects at drop-in engagement sessions happening next week.
  • June 22 from 4 - 8 p.m. at City Hall (1 Sir Winston Churchill Square)
  • June 25 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Callingwood Farmers' Market (6655 178 St)
Drop in and share your thoughts about supporting healthy aging in Edmonton.
SUBMISSIONS FOR DIRECTORY OF SENIOR SERVICES

Sage Seniors Association's 2017/2018 Directory of Senior Services will be released in the fall. Promote your organization's Greater Edmonton area programs, activities and services for older adults.

Browse the current edition of the Directory of Senior Services online for inspiration, then contact JoLynn at [email protected] or 780-701-9017 for a listing submission form or request an advertising package. Not-for-profit organizations' information is printed free of charge; paid advertising is available for for-profit businesses. Deadline for submissions is July 14.

You can also request free print copies of the Directory. Expect deliveries in September-October. 45,000 copies will reach seniors, their families and caregivers in many communities province-wide.

NEW HORIZONS FOR SENIORS PROGRAM

The deadline to submit a proposal for the 2017-2018 New Horizons for Seniors Program (Community-based Projects Component) is June 23, 2017.

The New Horizons for Seniors Program supports projects that are led or proposed by seniors. It is designed to help seniors improve the quality of life in their communities by participating in social activities and leading active lives. Eligible applicants may receive up to $25,000 in the form of a grant. Projects must address one or more of the program's five objectives.

To assist with the call for proposals process, several resources such as an applicant guide, tip sheets, and YouTube video of the application process are available. For more information call 1-844-836-8127 or email [email protected].

SUPPORT SERVICES FOR CANADIANS AFFECTED BY ELDER ABUSE

This webinar will explore the support services available for Canadians affected by elder abuse. The presentation will review gaps, areas for improvement, good practices and care, and supports that are available to older Canadian adults experiencing elder mistreatment. The information to be shared was derived from a literature review and a key informant survey. The purpose of the webinar is to have open discussion exploring existing systems in order to improve service delivery and effectively support older adults experiencing the different dimensions of abuse.

The Project Coordinator, in collaboration with the Clinical Director and Project Manager, will support the planning, implementation, and tracking of the start-up phase of a new health service project (C3 for Seniors). Once the project is operating, this position will transition to Executive Associate and report to the Executive Director. 

The Project Coordinator assists with managing and tracking project progress, recruitment of staff and volunteers, developing administrative processes, and evaluating project outcomes. The Executive Associate will be responsible for day to day collaborative interactions with the leadership team, providing strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills.

This presentation will give the audience a glimpse into the world of clinical research, academic integrity, industry-sponsored trials, and the precarious ethical dance among them. Examples of research misconduct will be used from real cases, as well as from the novel, "A Course in Deception" - a recently published fictional account of these issues.
