HEADING TOWARD RECORD ENROLLMENT IN SYNOD SCHOOL
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Nearly 700 people of all ages will descend upon a small town in Iowa July 23-28 to sing, study, worship and play.  Synod School, offered by the  Synod of Lakes and Prairies at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, is thriving - and unusual, since it is the only such Presbyterian program left in the country.
"It feeds people in such holistic ways - body, mind and soul," said Deb DeMeester, the synod's director of leadership development, who is in her second year of overseeing the program after years as a participant. Many attendees consider it the best week...( READ MORE).

The Power of Listening
Building Skills for Mission and Ministry
LYNNE M. BAAB
Listening skills, and the perspective gained through careful listening, are more important in congregations than ever. Many factors make attentive listening a significant contributor to healthy congregations. As we enter into a post-Christendom culture, the people coming into congregations, as well as the people in the wider community, are less likely to be operating from a shared set of assumptions. With world-wide migration reshaping our communities and congregations, diverse perspectives coming from varied cultural backgrounds are also more common. The...( READ MORE ).

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED JUNE 17-19
Blue Lake International Southern Winds Pre-Tour, Milwaukee, WI
I'm contacting you from the International Exchange Program at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan.  We are located directly East of Milwaukee, across the big lake! Each summer, we send 6 student groups to Europe on 3-4 week goodwill ambassador performance tours. We could really use your assistance. One of our groups, the International Southern Winds (concert band) is coming to Milwaukee for a 2-night "mini practice tour" before departing for Europe. This is a group of talented young Americans (and 1 German student), ranging in age from 12-18. They will be in Milwaukee Saturday evening, June 17th through Monday morning, June 19th.
Our Chairlady for this time in Milwaukee is Heather Gandre, of New Berlin. She has been working hard to select local host families to welcome these students into their homes for 2 nights. We have approximately 15 students left to house at this time, so 6-8 additional families are needed (assuming each family can host at least 2 students). The group is meeting and performing at Greenfield High School and have a free performance there on Sunday afternoon. A schedule for their time in the greater Milwaukee area is attached.
