San Diego County is an international leader in the field of technology. But what about North County? What is our impact and contribution to this growing industry?

Thanks to research garnered by the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, North County can take an active roll in leveraging this knowledge for industry sustainability and workforce development.

Tech industries on the 78 corridor are split into three categories: biotechnology and biomedical device manufacturing; information and communications technology; and defense, aerospace and transportation manufacturing. Companies span from small tech firms, with teams of 10 or less, to major corporations.

More than half of the tech companies surveyed in the economic impact study expressed dissatisfaction with their ability to recruit experienced, high-level talent. The 78 corridor cities and SDREDC are working with  educational institutions and incubators in the area to connect rising talent to employment opportunities.  Nearly 60 percent of open jobs require less than a bachelor's degree, as manufacturing accounts for most tech employment along the Corridor.

Escondido's roots are in agriculture. However, you will find many tech start ups and manufacturers in our city. Our educational institutions are also developing certification and associate programs to fill the gap in workforce demands and get individuals on the path to a great career.

Sincerely,

Rorie Johnston

NEW YORK (June 26, 2017) - Professional soccer is making its long-awaited return to San Diego County. The North American Soccer League (NASL) announced Monday that San Diego County is the league's newest expansion market, and the club will make its league debut in the Spring of 2018.
San Diego NASL is backed by an ownership group led by four global soccer stars: Demba Ba, Eden Hazard, Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sow. The players have partnered with local business executives to bring high-quality, professional soccer back to an area that is home to 3.3 million people and more than 50,000 youth players. Bob Watkins, a longtime San Diegan and successful businessman, will serve as the club's president.

SACRAMENTO - The California Assembly and Senate have until Thursday t approve the budget deal announced by Gov. Jerry Brown last week, but there's little uncertainty about the outcome. The general-fund budget is a record-setting $125 billion - something Brown describes as "balanced and progressive," given that it spends more on social programs, but doesn't bust the bank. In fact, the budget plan conforms almost exactly to the governor's longtime fiscal approach. He wants to fund social programs as much as possible, but not create new, permanent spending programs that cannot be curtailed when fiscal times are bad. He talks repeatedly about frugality, yet his budgets continue to ramp up state spending to record levels. He did set aside $8.5 billion for the rainy-day fund to prepare for any downturn.

Katherine Zimmer is dedicated to promoting Escondido as a destination.
Yes, a destination. Escondido is not just a great place to live and operate a business, it's a destination, with the California Center for the Arts, the Safari Park, dozens of top notch galleries, great restaurants, wonderful places for outdoors activities like hiking and fishing and, of course wineries.
"We are a destination, whether you think so or not," says Zimmer, who has operated the city's Visitor Center on Grand Avenue for four years. She also maintains the very useful visitor website: visitescondido.com, where you will find an exhaustive compilation of things to do in the city.
