RR Xtend, soybean growth stage. The approved dicamba herbicide products can be applied up to and including beginning bloom - also called the R1 growth stage. The R1 stage usually last about 7 days.

Therefore dicamba applications should be completed before the R2 stage. The R2 stage is defined as an open flower at one of the two top nodes of the main stem and at least one of these two upper nodes has a fully developed leaf.

Corn rootworm (CRW).  Check fields for damage from CRW feeding. Cornfields should be checked for root damage - regardless of traits or treatments. Erin Hodgson has some updated CRW management info in ICM News.

Nitrogen and Water Week. A field day on nitrogen (N) fertilizer use and nitrate losses will be held from 9:15 to 12:15 on June 29 at the Northwest Research Farm at Sutherland.

Profitable rates of N, cover crops, N inhibitors, N application timing and their effects on nitrate levels in tile drainage water will be discussed.

Cost is $25 and includes lunch. Walk in registrations are welcome. Two (1.5 SW, 0.5 NM) CCA credits are available.

Northwest Research Farm field day. The summer field day at the Northwest Research Farm is on July 12 from 9:00 to 12:30. Speakers include Chad Hart, Erin Hodgson, Ryan Bergman, Joel DeJong and Paul Kassel.
