As we kick off our 19th summer, we are happy to share that we are are well-positioned to welcome additional athletes and volunteers to our community by deepening our commitment to our backyard, the mountains of Western Maine, and introducing our quality adaptive programming to more Mainers and visitors to Vacationland.

Our ability to make a broader impact is directly tied to your role in our successful fundraising efforts, the Ski-A-Thon and our Annual Campaign. Without that support, we'd be unable to fulfill our mission to promote year-round education and training for individuals with physical disabilities.

This year, we challenged ourselves to raise $100,000 through our Annual Campaign. Please help us exceed that mark by making your contribution now, so that we may bring our program to even more deserving people!

PROGRAMMING IN THE GREATER BETHEL AREA
Working together with Gould Academy, the Bethel Inn, and Mahoosuc Pathways/Bethel Village Trails, we've mapped out a number of very cool program days of cycling, golf, tennis, and paddling. We invite you to stop by and see our new equipment, from all-court sport chairs, to AFARI's, to cycles, as we introduce more individuals to the joys of summer activity.

Our local programming will continue into the fall, as we partner with the Mahoosuc Land Trust to celebrate the opening of its universal access trail on October 1st as part of the 2017 Great Maine Outdoor Weekend. The trail will be available to us next winter for Nordic skiing and snowshoeing and next summer for cycling. Be sure to click the link below to learn more about this and upcoming events.

On The Road With Maine Adaptive
PROGRAMMING IN YOUR BACKYARD
We have plans - big plans - to take our program on the road this summer with the goal of introducing more individuals to adaptive recreation. Following are a few examples:
  • In mid-June, we traveled to Bangor to offer a volunteer training session and adaptive cycling clinic in partnership with Slipping Gears Cycling. It was a wonderful way to welcome new people to our adaptive community and explore new terrain at the Bangor City Forest. Everything went so smoothly that we're making plans to return on September 23rd.
  • On September 9th -10th, we will be heading to Acadia National Park for our annual multi-sport trip including paddling time at Eagle Lake and cycling/hiking on the Carriage Roads.
  • In October, we will be launching our Adaptive Climbing program in partnership with Salt Pump Climbing Company. We are eager to "hit the gym" with individuals who are looking to develop theirs skills, strength, and endurance.

Partnerships In Action (4 seasons a year!)
While many of us are basking in the glow of sun-filled days and relaxed rides around Back Cove or skimming the water at Range Pond, we recognize that many are already counting down the days until the first snowfall and opening days at our partner venues (15 weeks to go!).

For those of you who fall into the latter category, we thought you might enjoy a sneak peak at our latest "Day In The Life" vignette. Each vignette highlights the skill-development, independence, and socialization that our programs offer.

Thank you for your continued support and investment in our program.

Sincerely,

The Staff
