A MESSAGE FROM ANNEMARIE

Dear

We did it! ODA completed another year of programming.

That's another season of summer camps and summer internships for our kids.

That's another class of high school graduates, college freshmen, and college graduates - ready to take on the world.

When we begin working with 5th and 6th graders, we already envision them as young adults, breaking the chains of poverty and living independent lives.

At ODA, our mission is to protect, inspire, nurture, and challenge youth to reach their full potential

We also want to inspire you by sharing the incredible stories, personalities, successes, challenges, and generous support that make a deep and lasting impact in the lives of ODA scholars.

The PINC News will tell those stories.

Starting today and on the first Tuesday of every month, you can expect this newsletter to keep you informed about what is happening at ODA.  It will share stories about our scholars and their campuses.  It will shine a spotlight on our community partners.  It will explain why ODA is a national model of excellence in out-of-school programming .

Our scholars inspire us, and we hope that they will inspire you, too.

On behalf of all ODA scholars, our staff, and our Board of Directions, thank you.

Wishing you a wonderful Independence Day,

Annemarie M. Grassi, Ph.D.
CEO, Open Doors Academy
BEHIND THE SCENES AT ODA SUMMER CAMP

ODA Summer Camp is a vital piece of our year-round program and complements our school-year programming. In addition to fighting the academic, social, and emotional regression of students during the summer, a larger goal for Summer Camp is to act as a stepping-stone toward high school graduation. By staying connected with students during the summer, we increase the likelihood that they return to programming the following year. Each successive year of participation in programming is crucial to our students achieving high school graduation.

Summer Camp also invites students to broaden their world beyond the confines of their own neighborhoods. Students may attend camps that explore the rich history of Cleveland, hike across Cuyahoga Valley National Park, create works of art, and work with local chefs to expand their cooking skills.
A NEW SYSTEM FOR ODA DATA

ODA is on the verge of implementing a comprehensive data management system. Staff have been working diligently to get this system up and running for the coming school year. The new system, nicknamed the CRM, will be able to track long term student data in order to help ODA quantify and understand how Open Doors Academy impacts its scholars. The CRM will contain everything from daily attendance to quarterly grades, and even life events after high school graduation.

Additionally, parents will have access to their scholars' profiles. This year's summer camp registration took place on the new CRM system and will continue with Fall Registration. Campus Coordinators will also be able to view their scholar's information to better assist the scholars at their sites.

BELIEVE IN DREAMS, A DREAM OF A COMMUNITY PARTNER

Believe in Dreams works with our staff to make select scholars' dreams come true!

Pictured here is a "Dream Reveal" for one of ODA's scholars.  Believe in Dreams gifted her with tickets to see a musical, a gift card for  dress clothes and  dinner with her mom, and a voucher for singing lessons to help her reach her dream of becoming a vocalist.

Thanks to Believe in Dreams for their kind and generous work!

MAKING AN IMPACT IN SLAVIC VILLAGE:  THE THIRD FEDERAL FOUNDATION

When it comes to long-time supporters of ODA, there are few that come up as big and as often as the Third Federal Foundation. The Foundation is ODA's largest corporate funder. It played a pivotal role during ODA's first expansion in 2009, especially in getting the Miles Park campus off the ground.
