CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR CUGH BOARD MEMBERS

|
CUGH is seeking nominations from our membership for seven new Board Members for three-year terms that will start in March 2018. If you wish to nominate yourself or an individual who meets the criteria below and is not from an institution that is already represented by someone on the current Board of Directors (see below), please do the following:
- Submit a brief statement summarizing why you think this person (or yourself) would be a valuable member of the Board.
- Include the nominee's bio (please keep bios brief to no more than 250 words).
- Send your nominations to the CUGH Secretariat at [email protected] by August 7th, 2017.
The Nominating Committee of the Board will select the final candidates from the list of nominees by the end of
September 2017. Ballots with the names of the candidates will be sent out to the CUGH Membership to vote by early
October 2017
. Members will be asked to submit their votes by
October 14th, 2017
. New Board Members will be announced at the CUGH Annual Meeting
March 15th - 18th, 2018
in New York City.

- Nominees will be active faculty working in global health or a related field at an institution that is a dues-paying CUGH member in good standing.
- Nominees will have strong leadership qualities, with demonstrated success in building a global health department/program, or have a strong leadership role in collaborating with his/her home institute's global health department/program.
- Nominees should be willing to commit to a three-year term, be involved and participate in regularly scheduled board meetings - one annual meeting in-person and remaining meetings by telephone, -- and serve on one or more board committees. Nominees should expect to spend up to several hours per week on CUGH board activities.
- Nominees will add to the diversity of the current board. We welcome applicants from a broad range of professional medical and non-medical disciplines, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and/or geographic location including being from a low or middle-income country.
- Only one institution can be represented on the CUGH Board of Directors at any given time. The institutions currently represented by a voting board member who is NOT rotating off in 2018 are:
- Johns Hopkins University
- Stanford University
- Tulane University
- University of California, Davis
- University of Maryland, Baltimore
- University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
- Vanderbilt University

Responsibilities of CUGH Board Members:
|
|
- Actively participate in the CUGH mission and purpose, and enhance positive working relationships with individual and institutional members
- Contribute to the shaping, approving, monitoring, and implementation of the organization's activities
- Assess and improve the board's effectiveness
- Help guide and implement the organization's objectives, plans, and actions to maximize its capabilities and maintain financial security. This includes actively participating in fundraising and promotion of the organization
- Promote the organization publicly and provide the Executive Director opportunities for the organization to be represented at events, conferences, etc.
- Provide the Executive Director and other board members with knowledge about partnerships with other organizations and important contacts and potential resources that can help in the growth of the organization
- Maintain confidentiality about the board's meetings, financial related issues and subject matters discussed
- Provide oversight of disclosure and transparency, risk assessment, internal controls and processes designed to promote the organization's activities
- Provide advice and support to the Executive Director; participate in the Executive Director's annual evaluation
- Actively participate in Board of Directors meetings and committees
- Suggest nominees to the Board of Directors
- Time obligations include:
- Attending monthly Board conference calls (approximately 60 minutes per call);
- Participating on at least one Board committee; and
- Attending the annual Board Retreat that coincides with the CUGH Global Health Conference.

The Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH)
builds
interdisciplinary collaborations and facilitates the sharing of knowledge to address global health challenges. It assists members in sharing their expertise across education, research, and service. It is dedicated to creating equity and reducing health disparities everywhere. CUGH promotes mutually beneficial, long-term partnerships between universities in resource-rich and resource-poor countries, developing human capital and strengthening institutions' capabilities to address these challenges. It is committed to translating knowledge into action.
