Summer is here, and it is time to savour those sunny skies and warm breezes. Adventures await you in Durham this summer--there are festivals, open-air theatre and dining experiences, even live history events to enjoy. SCUGOG
Lavender Blossom Festival
This July, the Lavender-Blu Lavender Artisan Studio and Farm celebrates the Lavender Blossom Festival, showcasing this most aromatic plant in full bloom. The farm and studio are open Fridays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the month. The "golden hours" of early morning and late afternoon are also open to artists and photographers.
This small family run lavender farm is located in Seagrave, on the shores of Lake Scugog. The farm's focus is on unique hand-made products and education on the beauty and benefits of lavender. The farm attracts artists and artisans, photographers and lavender lovers alike. The studio features over 50 handcrafted lavender-inspired products, as well as artisanal items from local artists that blend well with lavender, such as local pottery, woodwork, and cement planters and bowls.

Rural Routes and Dirty Boots
Durham's award winning craft breweries and cideries are officially on the map! The new Greenbelt Brewery Discovery Routes Map features Ontario's independent craft brewers, cideries, distillers, Feast On restaurants, farmers markets, and the bounty of Ontario and its protected Greenbelt. Durham's Rural Routes and Dirty Boots is one of nine featured routes.
The Rural Routes and Dirty Boots discovery route stretches from the waterfront shores of Lake Ontario to the rural sites of the Oak Ridges Moraine. Experience fresh artisanal beers, ciders and local flavours of the Greenbelt. Take a tour; meet the brewer or grower; discover their partners' offerings like beer butter tarts and wholesome spent grain bread; and even check out the brew school. There's something for everyone in Uxbridge
There is something for everyone in Uxbridge on July 8! Stop by the second annual Family Kite Festival between 1 and 4 p.m. for a fun afternoon on historic Quaker Hill! Join the Township of Uxbridge's Take T.I.M.E Program and the Uxbridge Historical Centre for arts and crafts activities, giant games, face painting and healthy refreshments. Bring your kites to fly on the windy and panoramic Historical Centre grounds for this free and fun family event. Don't have a kite? Township of Uxbridge staff will be on hand with materials to help you make one!
Music lovers should head over to Elgin Park for the first annual Hitsfest, featuring headliner Platinum Blond. This music and arts festival features plenty of local bands, artists, food vendors, a VIP section, and beer garden. Tickets are $20, or $75 for VIP tickets, available through

Epic Lake to Lake Adventure Ride
Join t
he first-ever Epic Lake to Lake Adventure Ride on Saturday,
August 26. Cycle from Lake Simcoe to Lake Ontario along Durham Region's section of The Great Trail
(Trans Canada Trail), in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday! Travel the Beaver River Trail from Beaverton to Cannington to Blackwater, and The Great Trail from through Scugog, Uxbridge, Pickering and Ajax. Participants can experience the epic 95 km route or simply ride a section of the route. The $20 registration fee includes a t-shirt, lunch at the Second Wedge Brewing Co. in Uxbridge and refreshments at rest stops along the route. For $25, riders can take a bus from the Ajax Community Centre to begin the ride at Beaverton Harbour or in Cannington. Register online on the

On July 23, the We Grow Food Urban Farm Tour will visit some of Oshawa's most interesting and beautiful vegetable gardens. Meet the local urban farmers who care for nine private gardens and three local neighbourhood gardens, and participate in family friendly activities. Following the tour, enjoy a Harvest Feast at Memorial Park in downtown Oshawa with live music. All of the food for the feast is sourced from Urban Farm Tour participants and local farmers.

What dost thou say?
The Driftwood Theatre Group's annual Bard's Bus Tour comes to Durham Region this July and August. The troupe presents Othello, William Shakespeare's blistering tale of race, jealousy and revenge, set against the backdrop of Canadian history, when in 1974 Canadian soldiers are caught in a life or death struggle on the small island of Cyprus.
Admission is pay-what-you-can, and all performances are accompanied by a special audio installation, The Cyprus Project, beginning at 6:30 p.m. nightly, followed by Othello at 7:30 p.m.

The year is 1837. William Lyon Mackenzie is assembling the militia for the Battle of Montgomery's tavern. However, the Loyalist Mr. Jabez Lynde (1773-1856) and the housemaid, Mary, are hoping to stop the battle. When participants arrive, the house is in chaos.
Will Mr. Lynde make it to the meeting and stop the battle? Will Mackenzie march from Montgomery's tavern? Or will you change history?
On July 7, 8 and 9 experience history "in time"--think "Escape Room" with actors. This unique plot, focused on the Lynde Family, created especially for Lynde House Museum, and is available only on this weekend. Tickets are $20 per person. Blackstock Truck and Tractor Pull
The Blackstock Fairgrounds host the
Blackstock Truck and Tractor Pull on
July 7 and 8. Classes include Local 4x4 Diesel trucks, Single Engine Modified Tractors, Super Modified 4x4, Modified Farm Tractors, Pro Street Diesel Trucks and Pro Street Semis. A beer garden and food concession stands are on site. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children aged 5 to 12, and kids under five enter for free.
