Monday, July 3rd and Tuesday, July 4th, and will resume regular hours on Wednesday, July 5th.
UPCOMING SUNDAY SERVICES, 10:15 a.m.
Sunday, July 2: "Heresy or Inspiration? The Fascinating Gnostic Gospels"
Speaker: Sarah Wisseman
Many of the early gospels never made the cut for the Bible as we know it. This sermon explores controversial religious beliefs at the beginning of the Christian era.

Sunday, July 9: "Shared Ministry: Moses and the Peanut Man"
Led by Rev. Matthew Tittle
Both within and beyond the church walls we all share the "ministry" of this congregation.  Each of us has something in our lives that we MUST do. Something driven by love. What is that part of your life that you know you don’t have a choice but to fulfill?

Sunday, July 16: "Rising Inequality: Causes, Cures and Ethics"
Led by Walt McMahon with Jennifer Ellis assisting
The continuing dramatic increase in inequality in income and wealth in the US is one of the very most serious economic, political, social, and ethical problems of our time. It is an ethical and religious issue involving our value systems, and not a problem that can be solved by science. It also has massive effects on the well-being of every person and family."

Sunday, July 23: The Poetry and Music of Summer
Led by Beth Cobb
We will have a morning of poetry, readings, and music. Please bring a poem about summer to share. This could be a favorite poem written by another or by you. Please let Beth Cobb, service-assist@uucuc.org, know if you would like to be a part of this service by reading opening words or lighting the chalice.

Sunday, July 30

Around the World in Five Days, UUCUC Camp 2017

Once again, I survived another week long, all day camp, in the 90-degree weather, with 24 excited campers, and a wonderful group of volunteers.  Here is a short review of the week:

Help Needed for our Kent Conrad Piano Fund!
We need help in completing fund raising for a refurbished baby grand piano for the sanctuary. Most of the funds are already budgeted, but we (the Piano Task Force) have set a goal to raise an additional $8800 by August 1 to complete the purchase and make any small renovations to the sanctuary needed for this instrument. Our fundraising goal amounts to $100/key for an 88 key piano! You can donate on-line at this URL (designate the Kent Conrad Music Fund) or bring or send a check made out to the church, with "Kent Conrad Music Fund" or "piano fund" on the memo line.

A BIG thank you to Hospitality Team E
Thanks to Jenny Hunt and Karla Peterson, Hospitality Team Leaders for the month of June. Thanks to all the Hospitality Team E volunteers who assisted Jenny and Karla each Sunday during the month. June Hospitality Team volunteers will be acknowledged in the E news in early July.
Book & Magazine Exchanges Take a Break

Our monthly book & magazine exchange Sundays take a break during June, July & August when our worship services meet in Fellowship Hall.  Save your books & magazines for September 17 when we will resume our monthly exchanges.  Books & magazines can be for adults or children.

Be the Face of Sunday Morning: Join a Hospitality Team

Hospitality Teams are in charge of Sunday morning hospitality (e.g. bell ringing, welcoming, ushering, providing decorations and refreshments) for two months during the year. Hospitality Teams are a great way to meet people and serve our congregation in a fun and important way. All members and friends are encouraged to join a Hospitality Team.  Each Team has 30-35 members so you do not need to help on every Sunday assigned to your Team.

Stop by the Hub table on Sunday mornings to sign up for a Hospitality Team (or to find out if you are already assigned to a Team.) Questions? Contact Peggy Patten of the Membership Committee.

Member Focus
Sherry Bohlen
Membership Coordinator
This month we're kicking off a new "Member Focus" feature piece and we begin with a focus on our delightful Deedy Marble.

Many of you know Deedy as the charming writer of the welcome note that arrived in your mailbox shortly after you first visited UUCUC.

But there's much more to Deedy Marble than most of you know.  Take a look at this incredible Washington Post article that ran in 1985.  Give it a read and you'll never see Deedy again without thinking of her and her inn in Vermont!

Above is a picture of Deedy judging a recent RE-sponsored cooking contest. You can see she hasn't lost her interest in culinary arts!
