The House That Ruth Built: If you weren't a fitness freak and your cardiologist were on vacation, would it be acceptable to go to Ruth's Chris Steak House with this $150 gift certificate courtesy of Stephanie Reed and order four white chocolate bread puddings ... for starters? Why four? Because you would never be able to decide between the spirited crème Anglaise topping sauces -- orange Cognac, nutty Frangelico, raspberry Chambord and coffee Tia Maria. This will make you cluck: Until Chicken Salad Chick came along, who knew chicken salad came in 417 "perfect" concoctions? Among the many varieties are Fruity Fran, Cranberry Kelli, Dixie Chick and Kickin' Kay Lynne. What really astounds is a side dish ... red and white seedless grapes covered in a sweet cream cheese mixture, topped with brown sugar and crushed pecans. AND JUST 138 CALORIES. The Schisslers own the Chicken Salad Chick in north Fort Worth and are opening one on Grapevine Highway in Hurst this fall. It's a full-service deli with drive-thru, dine-in, quick carryout or catering. Chickens are not the only birds available; they've got the turkey and some high flier called pimento. Was that cheesy? Thanks to John, you can try two large Quick Chick bowls and two large side bowls and also receive a small Chicken Salad Chick cooler and Koozie.
 Rex Reed here: Another season of Magnolia at The Modern (Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth) opens June 30 and this six-movie series is more centered on people stories. The Mr. B family Orthodoxes already have seen The Wedding Plan and (with rave reviews) say it is the story of a female Orthodox Hasidic Jew whose fiancé bows out on the eve of their wedding and she refuses to cancel the wedding arrangements. Will a husband emerge? The Hero depicts a man dying of pancreatic cancer and his relationships with a daughter and a wild new woman friend. Sam Elliott sound perfect for that part? Also included are the music of John Coltrane in Chasing Coltrane, Maudie (a Canadian folk artist), The Journey, a story of political / militant enemies forced to take a trip together in Ireland, and 13 Minutes, the story behind Georg Elser's attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Kendal (jump in the) Lake has a series pass for two.
The hunt for bundt: Mr. B loves the smell of bundt cakes in the morning. And all day inside the Nothing bundt Cakes store at Hulen and Camp Bowie. (Why hasn't that shop's smell become an air freshener scent?) Somebody had to volunteer to fight through the arresting aromatic awesomeness to get to the titanic tastes of the cakes, made only with fresh eggs, real butter and real cream cheese from real cows. If you're worried about a calorie or two, Mr. B would suggest the Drizzle over the Signature frosting, but love handles or not, B went Signature. Thanks to Emily Miller's nothing bundt care, Mr. B was wheel-barrowed out with a giveaway of a "sweet" cello wrapped bundtlet tower of three and a gift certificate redeemable for a decorated 8-inch cake.

YP + FW = $$$: Forbes magazine says Texas young professionals have it best in Fort Worth, which ranked 14th among cities nationally.
A toothy grin: Michelle Jones at Oncor became a grandma for the 5th time last month, a granddaughter born with two teeth. Unusual, but not rare; birth with teeth occurs every 2,000-to-3,000 births, according to the National Institute of Health. "Aristotle was one," Michelle said. "We got us a genius!"
Name game: Introducing hisownself before a Chamber Panther City Leads Group presentation -- "Hi, I'm Nicholas Aaron Galati; if you want, call me NAG." The RHSB insurance guy has a seven-month old daughter named Grey. He is concerned that she might marry someone with the last name Beard.
 Banks have changed, too: In a new BBVA Compass Fort Worth market spotlight online, there is a photo of the bank's Fort Worth CEO Brian Happel at the 1982 New York Jets training camp. The punter/placekicker was a rookie out of UT-Arlington.
Brings tears to our eyes: Just nine days until June 23 National Onion Rings Day, according to monthologist John Fletcher. Hoping the phat foodies at the Star-Telegram's DFW.com have a "Running Rings 'Round All Others" feature planned.
Missed opportunity? There is a recent Fort Worth Business Press article on new Lee Johnson Capital Management president / CEO Andy Heinz. Article started on page 58; too bad it wasn't 57.
Food lions: Susan and Howard Shaw of their namesake Shaw Insurance volunteer (the past 10 years) every Thursday evening at a food pantry in North Richland Hills. Every Friday, Susan and Howard buy their 11 employees lunch. Coincidence? |

Bowl-ful of memories: Beth Ann Black, mistress of marketing at Weaver, was hopefully searching for Chocolate Almond Marshmallow on the list of available Blue Bell pints in last week's newsletter. It did remind her of when she lived in El Paso and Blue Bell wasn't available; her parents would visit with ice cream and t-shirts that read "Super Bowl" with a photo of a large bowl of Blue Bell ice cream.
