The Science Behind Pranayama
Pranayama

A Sanskrit word meaning control of the breath or life force, the practice of Pranayama is often viewed as an ancient science in its own right.
Pranayama is the fourth limb of Yoga in accordance to Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, dating back between 200 BCE - 500 CE. 

Fast forward to modern day, and you can find Pranayama techniques in the Third Metric, Mindfulness, or Stress Relief Columns on your favorite news sites.

Deepen your practice with Ricky Tran! Advanced Yoga Training Day Passes are now available for the 50 hour training.

For those who have a good foundation or are 200 hour trained and would like to deepen their practice and understanding of yoga. We meet in the morning and end by 2pm, Monday through Friday through June 23. The first week (June 12-16) is geared towards the practitioner with workshop, etc. The second week will include teaching how to assist others within the same series.

The first part of the morning will be a 2-3 hour practice/workshop/drills/ corrections/assists/muscle release. Ending with Prayanama, meditations and reflections that will guide the discussions in the following yoga lecture. 

Below is a tentative schedule of postures (asana), sequence (krama) and theme.

Mondays - Refining and Advancing Sun Salutations, including jumping and floating.

Tuesdays - Ashtanga Primary Series, forward bending, lotus, hip opening, inversion, practicing without interruption until we need to workshop and assist.

Wednesdays - Ashtanga Second Series, backward bending, lotus, hip opening, inversion, practicing without interruption until we need to workshop and assist. 

Thursdays - Vinyasa Krama, T Krishanamacharya's signature system as handed down to Srivatsa Ramaswmi who taught this to university dance students in India. Theme will be inversions, shoulderstands and headstands and many variations.

Fridays - Playful and challenging signature vinyasa practice based on the various T Krishnamacharya lineages (Ashtanga Vinyasa, Vinyasa Krama, Iyengar Method).
