The last few weeks have been filled with the excitement of high school graduations. At ITEP, we were thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of seniors from all fifteen of our supported high schools. Last week, I also had the joyful (and tearful) experience of watching my own twin sons receive their high school diplomas.
Reflecting on this milestone moment, both as an education professional and as a mother, made me deeply aware of and profoundly grateful for the circle of parents, teachers, mentors, volunteers, and friends who helped prepare these young men and women for this launch into adulthood. Graduation is a group effort. They walk across the stage alone, but our graduates have an entire community of love and support behind them. Thank you for your role in making this amazing moment happen!
As every parent knows, the need for support and guidance doesn't stop at high school graduation. This is why ITEP also connects our graduates to a community of alumni and industry mentors who will help them navigate the next steps in their career journey. We're in this for the long haul.

Congratulations to all the ITEP scholars from Phineas Banning High School's Pilot Academy of Technology and Health Sciences (PATHS) for successfully completing this year's Robotics Program!
Through collaboration, innovation, and perseverance, these students constructed and programmed functional land and underwater robots. Competitions were held to determine the top performing robots and on Thursday, April 27th, we celebrated their hard work with a student showcase and culminating address from our guest speakers Janet Grothe, Public Affairs Manager at Phillips 66, Michael Haworth, Rotating Equipment Engineer at Phillips 66, and Christy Carter, Aerospace Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman.
A very special thank you to Phillips 66, for the generous grant to this STEM program and for investing in tomorrow's engineers.

Environmental Scientists Assemble!
I
n partnership with the Harbor Community Benefit Foundation, ITEP
launched
its first
Environmental Youth Leadership Summit
in April.
The summit kicked-off with a pre-event mixer at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium that featured two special guest speakers; Cara Santa Maria, a Los Angeles Area Emmy and Knight Foundation Award-winning journalist and science communicator, and Kelly Stromberg, the Director of Aquaculture Operations at Catalina Sea Ranch. In addition, two ITEP students from San Pedro High School's Global Environmental House shared with the audience their experiences conducting water and soil testing in the community.
On the day of the summit, more than 200 students from local high schools and middle schools learned about the importance of caring for our environment and innovative solutions to some of the various environmental issues the planet faces - as well as learning about potential career paths in environmental and clean tech industries.
A very special thank you to all speakers, exhibitors, volunteers, students, teachers/chaperones, and to the Harbor Community Benefit Foundation for the generous grant which made these activities possible.

If You Could Go Back in Time...
What advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
More than 16 of our industry partners took the time to share the words of wisdom they would give their teenage selves with more than 300 ITEP students from Los Angeles River School. These professionals with backgrounds in healthcare, law, music, TV, film, and more, shared insights from their personal and professional journeys, the challenges and successes they've experienced, and the lessons learned.
Thank you to all supporting teachers and faculty at Los Angeles River School, and to all the guest speakers for inspiring these students to pursue their passions, be persistent, and persevere. A special thank you to our keynote speaker Sanden Totten, a science writer and radio journalist currently working on "Brains On!", a science podcast for kids, and the Netflix show "Bill Nye Saves the World."

Preparing Students for the
Big Leagues
Thanks to the Carson Sheriff's Department, ITEP students from Carson High School's Global Business, Law, and Government Academy were able to take a trip to the University of California, Irvine (UCI)
, where they talked with guest speakers, toured the campus, and attended a UCI baseball game.
A special thank you to guest speakers Chief Jorge Cisneros, Deputy Noya, and Deputy Ramos of the Carson Sheriff's Department for taking the time to discuss the importance of goal setting and accomplishing tasks, and to UCI students Mark Delgado and Ph.D. candidate Adam Dunbar, for sharing insights about the field of Criminology.

The World Beyond School: Teaching Students Crucial Career Skills
Earlier this spring, 108 ITEP students from West Adams Preparatory High School learned some vital career skills they are going to need for success in the working world, thanks to the support of three incredible volunteer guest speakers.
Susan Dvonch of Shey-Harding Executive Search taught the students how to create standout resumes and cover letters, Gregg Garcia of MyDyer enlightened them on the power of networking and highlighted four ways they could network while in high school, and Ron Roberts of Griffith Company covered some of the tough interview questions the students might encounter.

It's Back - Our Biggest Career Exploration Event Ever!
Last year, more than 650 ITEP students began
navigating
their roads to success with help from keynote speaker, Stedman Graham, along with 33 exhibitors and 34 breakout session speakers.

ITEP Photo of the Month: Fueling the Future
"What do you want to be when you grow up?" That is the main question for many students.
